Ian M's Seafire fr46/47. Airfix 1/48.

That looks like a great project Ian, looking forward to see you putting it together :coffee:

Fine choice Ian , by all accounts its a superb kit , often regarded as one of Airfix’s best . Looking forward to this

A Seafire to add to the many different versions being constructed. Excellent choice Ian

This, as you know, is a really nice kit. And who doesn't love contra-rotating props.

Right then:
The sprues:

First one has the Fuselage and a few other bits and bob's (technical term that, honest). and a rather grumpy looking pilot..
20260320_101609.webp
The easy option. wings out and ready to scoot...
20260320_101626.webp
The other option; wings up and ready to park up.

A little sprue of clear parts.
The sprues have a bit of flash and some of the parts too, but nowt to serious. I have dealt with far worse...
More later...

Well the missus is off on a course today and tomorrow, so I might get something done today... lol might.

So I got the few bits that will be Yellow and got those primed with some erm...Mr. finishing surfacer 1500. Ready for which ever paint I throw at it. Most likely, Vallejo Model Air Nato black...

...and maybe some Xtracrylix Trainer yellow of maybe RAF Rescue yellow. Airfix call out is trainer yellow, but it looks a bit light....We'll see.

Right now its coffee time while the Mr. hobby thinners leave the room.

That does indeed look a nice kit. Considering how many were built and how much they were used we see very few Seafires modelled.

I noticed inside the fuselage it is moulded with Airfix. 1996. so not that new a kit. but still OK. I think the newest one is the mkXVII .
Anyhow.

Got the fuselage zipped then realised I forgot to photo the cockpit. No biggie. it was just a dry brush to highlight the detail which will never be seen, lol.
20260322_092531.webp
Just like the base of the cockpit area, which will never be seen again.
20260322_092535.webp
Got a few of the dangly bits sorted just a bit more finagling then paint for those too.
20260322_092609.webp
I know the arresting hook is a bit of the fuslage but the contact point is not the best there. It is however on the rudder which is also the same colour. So...

While I had the Nato black in the airbrush, I painted the prop blades... Then regretted that quite quickly today when I needed to paint the 2mm yellow tips...so...

I painted them again and will mask off the tips and hit them with the black again.
So far albeit a bit of flash it is going together well with almost a perfect fit.

Good start Ian and great choice 👍

This kit is on my wish list, it looks really aggressive with the contra-rotating prop.
Looking forward to seeing how it goes together.

Geoff.
