Hi guys. Did you miss all my usual inane drivel the last few weeks? Not to worry, now I'm finally back up and running on the 'net, I'll soon catch up!

Do you want me to move this post to the 'Introductions' thread Dave ? :smiling5:

Welcome back to the land of technological wonder dave , what was it like living in the dark ages this last fortnight? ( probably blissfully simple )
Regards Hymer Luddite

Welcome back. Bet you re-discovered all sorts of things to do that you'd forgotten about.

It could've been better. My car went in for it's MOT on the 1st of this month and it failed big time - four new coil springs, rear brake pipes and four new tyres needed! I wasn't going to spend that much on a motor only worth £1500 at best after the repairs.

You ever tried finding, funding, taxing and insuring a new motor with no internet, no phone and no mobile?

I got really lucky though after visiting my bro and using his internet I got this E280 CDi auto with all the trimmings on an '08 plate for £4000 - and they gave me £700 in part ex for my old motor!

When I say all the trimmings, just the centre console gives me Sat nav, CD changer with MP3, TV, DVD and Bluetooth. As I only want the first two on that list, I reckon it'll only take me six months or so to work out how to use them!

PS Good luck aside, I've missed you guys!

I could not survive that long without the www! Well done that man.
And yes you where missed.

They also threw in a 12 months warranty and basic AA cover for 12 months so really pleased.

Although the retail cost of the repairs to my old Merc made it uneconomical for me, at trade prices it's worth repairing and someone's going to get a nice, cheap motor. I'm glad about that as it was far too good to be scrapped.

Thanks for the greetings guys. I was half expecting: 'As the Queen Mother was once heard to say: "Oh no! Not him again!"'

PS I told you it wouldn't take long for the drivel to start!

Tidy wheels Dave.
Nice to read you are back in action too....

Judging by the size of the motor, you should have plenty of room for loads of 'Big Boxes'...... If we ever get back to Cosford again!

Still workin' on the Sat Nav in the new motor. Strangely, I can't hear the woman's voice giving directions - which would be a blessing any other time. So this is a first for me - asking a woman to speak up 'cos I can't hear her!

Had to rely on my granddaughter's mobile when I took her and family to Skegness on Friday.

Then I got to find out how to record stuff in MP3 format on a CD. Don't nobody suggest iPods or anything else made by Apple! Last time I tried to use Apple, it 'blue screened' my 'puter and I had to buy another one.

Anyway, whatever else happens, I'll be starting my half track for the GB on Thursday, so at least I'll be back at the bench for that. Don't know about any 'laddy bants' though. Have to wait and see how the build goes.

PS 'twas me what bought that Warhammer stuff from Lee last week. Got three complete vehicles and lots of figures so happy with that. I'm applying my mighty intellect to working out some sort of dio for them (gotta find summat I think is worth copying) but it won't be part of the Warhammer universe.

Hi Dave
If the sat nav in your Merc is like the one in my Audi you can only turn her up when she’s actually speaking…..just use the volume control on the CD player (or steering wheel) when she’s blathering on to set her where you want….

As to recording in MP3 you should be able to do this directly from the file source (usually a Wav file) using the “save as” command on acPC. When you are using it, set up the target to be saved to, the CD drive in this case, then change the file type to be saved to MP3. Failing that, have a look for a CD ripper program. There should be quite a few around for free.
