Stop with the paint "code" in the assembly drawings. Just say what the colour is. Let people know and not have to cross reference between paint brands. If its got a name or production code as in an FS, RAL, KLM, BS, etc or Dunkel Gelb III , or British Khaki no 3. say it.
On the same subject, paint call outs in sub-assembly sections. Why is it that so few kit companies do this?

Rubber tyres/tires. Why Just why. The detail is :poop: they loose shape , either stick to any surface they are standing on, or melt, or both. If you want to make the extra effort there is this great new invention called 3D printing where the detail is fantastic and no mould seams!

Options: If you are going to make a model so finely detailed with PE parts could you please, where it is possible include a plastic part as an option. Or again there is the 3D Print option where a more robust material can be used. I like PE but not when it is so "fine" that it breaks when you as much as look at it sideways. How the heck are we ment to be able to fold it four ways, glue it together and then in place!

Any others have model kit pet hates that could be done better.

Not at the moment Ian, those are more than enough for me to be getting on with! Agree completely!

Instructions ! written by people who are not modellers and think that every one is an engineer.

100% with you on all of these Ian.

Add to that the manufacture of parts that are just not structurally strong enough to be practical in the name of keeping the. ‘In scale’.

In building my HKM 1/48 Lanc I have had a lot of broken parts in the name of scale thickness. It the only bad thing about the kit (oh, plus vague placement instructions…)

So many u/c struts broke I decided to buy a metal set. A brass set being available for £60! I just did not want to lay out that much. Instead I got a white metal set for a fraction of that only to find that it’s useless…. I just used some of the metal struts with the plastic parts. I now think that I would have been better off spending £60 on the brass……

The worse thing, a ‘box’ that fits under the nose of the Lanc, provided as etch, bent to shape OK but could I get it to glue to the fuselage, no way. Eventually a side just broke off making it useless leaving me with a ca mess to clean up on the painted fuselage. I could not be bothered to scratch another so left it without.

What fool decides that the thin edge of etch is good for gluing!

Rant over.

The same one that thinks that a 0.5mm Ø plastic stub is perfectly workable to hold a head-lamp on a car. or a crank handle. How many wingmirrors have survived past the first month. Maybe a better idea for things like wing mirror bars would be to include a former you could bend some included brass wire to shape/length.

Trumpeter / Hobbyboss are terrible , colours often wrong and bugger all about ships boats, small guns etc.

Regarding etch, my absolute pet hate is supplying etched parts to fold into a box that are hinged from the lid or base. It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to get sharp corners that way…..to get a proper box either the sides have to overlap the ends or the ends overlap the sides.

Or at the very least, also include the official names/numbers in the list of recommended paints.

Revell's crazy paint mix info... just tell us what the bleedin colour is and let us decide how to make it...

I'm pretty new to all of this but I concur with manufacturers paint colour descriptions.

But I guess alll kit manufactures (who also sell paint) want you to buy their paints. It's how they make money with the added extras and services.

Paints especially,......but....
..... What about the instructions that give a "?" for an "Alternative part"..
... but don't say which version it's applicable for?!

That's for the one you think is prettiest.......
At least Eduard tell you to check your references.

Mmm this is a toughy ,being in the much maligned minority of brail scale armour builders if its green within reason I paint it green etc ,I always thought hobbyboss and trumpeter gave pretty good colour call out listing most of the major paint manufacturers ,as for instructions cant see that ever changing it doesn't affect their sales else something would have been done about it ,I can feel for Barry W some of thoes wingy kits are hefty old things but a further sixty squid for a set of struts is a no win situation but I suppose on par with the oh no indy link gang they lump out almost that for a set of white metal indy links that you still have to clean up and then drill out before you can start building them ,fine if thats the way you want to go ,but how many think to actually still try and build the plastic ones their not hard more of a confidence thing the manufacturers don't care they've still sold you the kit their not bothered if you don't like the indy tracks go elsewhere but the punter can't because there in control. 3d printing there's some absolutely breathtaking stuff being produced but at what price to the kit if its going to ad to the already increasing prices I'll take the photo etch though I do agree with including the plastic alternative always handy when you muck up the etch ,etch most of its not that bad another of thoes confidence things the more you do etc.
Sorry guys I dont think much will change anytime soon else in 72nd scale big hitters like hobbyboss trumpeter and dragon would stop making kits with moulded on tools and gun cradles ,solid grab handles in my eyes reducing their kits to kiddy toys zvezda and all the Ukrainian company's dont do it but at least iv got a choice.
As for paint one mans poison and all that ,I love the mr hobby aqueous stuff (dont use their lacquers anymore) but what is it with all this semi gloss stuff is it just a play to make you buy either their matt or gloss varnish to get the finish you want. Sorry I'll stop there I dont think your change em their not bothered people buy their stuff regardless ,the only hope i can see is with the ever increasing cost of every thing unless they start giving better value for your money people will have to swallow their plastic snobbery and look at alternative manufacturers. Dave

Another irritation is when they supply two or more crew members but they are identical.
