Once again, I've been a bit busy in the real world, with a fair bit of 1:1 painting, paints by Dulux. Have I said before I'm not a fan of decorating. And it all started with a simple statement; 'I'd like to re-model my aquarium'
Ma'am replied, 'great let's go and buy some paint' I soon realised what she meant.
Anyway, as a way of preserving sanity, I've managed a bit of 1:72 work just a a diversion away from the 1:1 work.
The Italeri Blackbird. Not many parts in the box, so it was great for the odd 10 minutes here and there I was able to give it.
Luckily, there's a wealth of information on line, loads of pictures of some quite tired machines. So, here's my really dark, dark grey Blackbird.

Very nicely done indeed Colin. A great finish, especially as it's a monotone colour.

Very well done.

Cheers chaps for stopping by. It was a little difficult to photograph due to its length. I believe someone's doing a 1:48 kit now. That would be an outside job.

Smashing job Colin. RIAT 1986 I was up close to one of these beasts. Quite an experience. (They parked our lil ole Wasp under the wing of the thing, which meant we shared the security detail the SR71 had.)

Well done Colin, great paint finish and subject.
Used to see these and the TR-1/U2 at Mildenhall and even had a few base visits with friends that were based there.
The official colour was blue black, I cannot remember the FS number, but you came very close to replicating it, again well done.
As for the 1.1 Dulux painting, I do not mention paint any more but do develop selective deafness....

Very nice indeed. Not an easy paint job to make look interesting but you've definitely nailed it.

I too have been a Dulux 1:1 specialist lately.
I feel your pain.

Lucky the Blackbird didn't leak on you. It seems, it liked to mark its spot.
The official colour was blue black
It's a strange colour, particularly after a long heat treatment session, often know as a flight.

It's funny, there's a few of us happy to paint plastic, but mention a wall or two, and we run for the hills.

I wish I had paid attention as to how many different colours / shades I used on the thing.

Thanks again everyone for stopping by.

Now that's a SR-71 to be very proud of, the modulation is spot on and looks just right...
