Here is the finished model of the 'Kate' trying to smash into the British Carrier off Okinawa in 1945.
I'm not totally happy about some of the shell splashes, they've keeled over a bit. Easy fix with some snips, but I should have clocked it sooner. (Must try harder next time) and I forgot some funnel smoke!

I did a bit of a water colour sketch for the back ground to liven it all up a bit.

It's been good fun trying to get it something like it might have been though.

No photoshop nonsense! Bit of a mixture, only a few because...........

Lovely work Ron. You do get a sense of a snapshot of drama unfolding, you can almost hear the engine struggling and the splashes and pom-pom sounds.

To answer part of the question about levitation. As already mentioned by my mates , I used forced perspective. The ship is 1/600 and the aircraft is 1/72, so, remembering the golden rule - Largest scale to the front - I placed the aircraft's nose actually resting on a gun platform of the carrier, but because of the perspective, the aircraft appears yards from the ship.
"When you can take these stones from my hand, Grasshopper, then you will find out about the secrets of levitation....."

I will tell, but perhaps folks might like to try and guess first?

Here, to puzzle you even more, and as there was only one of the lone aircraft, are three more shots from a different angle that I took this morning

As mentioned earlier, I've snipped off the offending curling shell splashes.

A simple idea like having the landing wheel half hanging down somehow conveys a feeling of desperation and struggle to hit the target - no matter what.

I thought it might be of some help to anyone contemplating something similar, to show the simple background water colour sketches. As they appear to be in the distance, there is no need to detail them. Too much detail makes the image seem closer, so less is good. So even a single stand alone model deserves a back drop of some sort or other. It makes all the difference to a model. Don't think you can't paint, give it a go. Even a simple sky wash is better than nothing......Try it on your next model.

They are rough close up, but as a backdrop they look o.k.
