Latest Acquisitions (2023)

had a question for both of you if you don't mind about the workable tracks, as mine too has the vinyls.....I think I know the answer but wanted to check....
I am no expert but I think the tracks I have bought are for earlier mk.III the T144 ones replacing them later.

Essentially, yes, but you could see both types in use until the end of the war. Early photos of Churchills usually show BTS 3 types, and the manganese type becomes more common in the later years of the war but never seem to have replaced them completely. At least some of the Kingforce tanks, the first combat use of the Mk. III (and, I think, represented by Ian’s kit’s box art), had manganese tracks in 1943, for example, but in my neck of the woods, out of six Mk. IV AVREs landed on 1 November 1944, four has BTS 3 tracks and only two had manganese ones. Which is why I will be using the BTS 3 type, because I have photos showing them on the tank I’m building a model of :)

However, if you’re looking to make a generic Churchill Mk. III, to the best of my knowledge you can just use either type. Put on whichever strikes your fancy, or that you can actually find to buy, I would say :)

I have the old Tamiya 1/35 Churchill in the stash..
... Was thinking of doing it in the next 12 months or so .. BUT seeing your newer, and different manufacturers kits, I'm not so sure!!

Andy, do it... it turns out to be a pretty decent looking model when built...maybe just change the tracks...

Thanks both for taking the time to share your thoughts....will have a look... Might go for the ones that are easier to do!!! :smiling5:

It was a decent kit for its time, one Tamiya put a good deal of effort into, but it is a Tamiya kit of its time :) As Ian says, it builds up into a nice model, but it won’t have the level of detail of the AFV Club ones. On the other hand, it will also be a lot simpler to build than an AFV Club kit :) Also, if you want a model of a Mk. VII, it’s the only choice — AFV Club do Mks. III and IV, but the VII was pretty much an entire redesign so differs in a great many points.

Morning all

So this is an AM resin set to correct a number of issues with the Halifax that I have for my 'Hunters and Hunted' collection; issues with spinners, props, engine nacelles and wheel size. As you know I'm not normally too fussy but I thought I would push the boat out as it's for a display piece and I got the kit for a good price, plus the RRP on these was not too bad.

These have though been out of production for some time and this is the first time in 5 months of having had an eBay 'saved' search running for it that it's popped up*. Paid more than I wanted but then my daughter offered to pay for it for my Father's Day present***, RESULT!!

She even offered to buy more things for me for Father's day and so has asked me to put a list together - DOUBLE RESULT!!!*******:smiling3: :smiling3:

ATB

Andrew

** Sods law says a second one popped up the day this arrived.....here's hoping it goes for more than I paid!! :confounded:

**** Ok, so that does mean I can't use it until mind-June but fine by me! :smiling3:

****** She's in her first year A levels and has got very a good part time job that pays very well for someone of her age....to put it into context she's taking my wife to see Coldplay in Manchester in the summer.....not my thing but you can imagine how much two tickets for that gig will cost!! :cold-sweat::cold-sweat:

Indeed Gordon....when I told her much the resin set cost, she said "Is that all??" I must admit I did like Coldplay's early stuff a lot but am not keen on the newer material.

Decals for the KT I picked up last weekend, accidently ordered the wrong set, which was about a fiver cheaper, but got sent the right set for the same price.
The unit badges are just squares for some reason but I'll not complain.

The last one is thanks to Si @eddiesolo , me thinks I've got some work to do.
I also have some Evolution miniatures US special forces in Afghanistan 2001 200?, I've forgotten where I've put them!

Another superb 1/5 3D printed bust from scale collectibles. Awesome detail and casting for £20, been hollow I suppose it cuts down a heck of a lot on resin needed

Very impressive cast Steve. The texture on the jacket is superb!

Good god that is the best figure bust I've ever seen, can't wait to see you work your magic on this Steve, it'll be awesome... :thumb2:

A quick journey to my local hobby store for some purple paint for the Mekon saw me walk out with this for the Pacific Group Build.. a total steal at £24.99
