Well after a brief detour into aircraft models I am back on more familiar ground with this outstanding bust from Alexandros Models. I sometimes like to sculpt my own busts but this time I decided to go with a better model from the professionals.

This is what comes in the box.

very nicely sculpted and crisply cast.

Now to start this the wrong way round I decided to make a base first. This is a turned piece of wood with some Magic Sculpt additions that will eventually turn in to a Greek urn.

I'm going to attack this bust with an acrylic undercoat and then in oils.

Hi John
Nice choice, good to see a figure from you again. Base looks interesting, but won’t it look a little like he’s sitting in a cannibal’s stew pot?

Hi John,
Boy oh boy...this time around we'll be the ones asking the questions and learning a few tips or two. Got my hot cocoa and sitting in the corner. Should be getting cold and wet in your part of the neighbourhood.

Cheers,
Richard

John.
Back to normal service then .:smiling2: Mind the plane was good, and now your on firm ground I'm sure this will be even more stunning.
That chest sections does look very well cast indeed.

The other John.

Hi John.
What an amazing Bust no pun intended!!.The vase is a fantastic idea!!!.
Nice to see more figure subjects from the gang.
Richard

Hi John
That does look a beautifully cast bust. Plenty of scope for your skills. Don't go forgetting you have moved on and add wings to it.
Looking forward to this.
Jim

I'm going to sit in on this one John. Busts are not something that have interested me before (well not the resin sort anyway :smiling5:) but this one might change my mind.

Hi John

A loverly bust, I am sure you will do it justice - I also like the idea of an urn for the base.

Peter

John,
The bust looks beautifully molded and a great idea for the base. I knew you could resist a little bit of sculpting.

Gentlemen welcome aboard this little blog. Retsina will be served during the interval or warm goat milk for those who are on the wagon.

Like I mentioned starting this completely back to front. A couple of coats of Gesso followed by a ground of raw sienna topped off with a couple of naked Greek chappies doing what Greek chappies do apparently.
One genuine Greek antique vase lady,

Now to the bust itself.

Thanks chaps. It's probably quite wrong for Laconia but I think it works OK

Just a blu Tac assembly to check.

Now for some clean up, a nice warm bath and the serious work of painting.
