Looking very slick Steven , how was the lucky varnish to use ? I’m wanting a good varnish that gives a nice glossy shine ,after only one coat preferably , this one does look very good . Cheers tony

Hi Tony,
I think in your case the Lucky varnish might not be the best choice for you, I like it but as many of the mig range this product needs to be applied in very thin layers, and about 5minutes between coats... I also seem to get issues when after 24hours I start using MicroSet for decals, I'm not sure what happens but it looks like the MicroSet is sometimes (not always) attacking the gloss coat a little bit :thinking: . This might be caused by something else, but it looks a bit liķe when you have a wet paper and move your finger over it, then you get these very fine grainy things coming loose... But it might not be the varnish, any one else who knows what I'm talking about?
Yesterday I got the decals on, will try to get a picture online later :thumb2:

Hi guys,
I added the decals on the P-40...
Lately I'm having some minor issues with MicroSet aplied onto the Lucky Varnish Gloss coat,
it seems to attack the gloss coat similar like rubbing your finger on wet paper?
I had this on my other builds too but after the matt-coat is sprayed on this is no longer visible...
Decal setup...
The decal sheet, 3 different shark-mouths are included :thumb2: ...
I thought the shark-mouth would be very tricky but if you take your time it's not to difficult at all.
They did a very good job designing the decal-shape to conform to the model.
All decals are on, I went for the box-art markings...
I applied a 2nd gloss coat yesterday so today I'll add the panel wash...

Yesterday I added a panel-line wash, I used Tamiya dark brown and here and there a bit of black...
A did a bit of dry-brushing on the wheels...
Today I sprayed a few coats of 'ultra matt' Lucky Varnish, I also added the exhaust and gun shading with the airbrush...
I glued the tail-wheel...
But the hole in the fuselage was to big, so I made a stretched-sprue and clamped it around the tale-wheel as an extra support (glued)...
The masking was removed from the canopy, always exiting
...
The tail-wheel still has to dry a few hours, this is what I have at the moment :

Just had a catch up. Great work on the wheels a vast improvement. The basic office also looks good after the work you have done on it. Overall a great build.

I used the brush that comes with the Tamiya Panel line product, it's the same type of brush like Tamiya Extra Thin cement.
But any fine brush would work fine. It's a ready to use product, so I don't thin it. I add it to the panel line, let it dry a bit and then wipe the excess off with a paper napkin and a tiny bit of white spirit...

I bought a small upgrade for the kit :
The kits 'ring & bead' was rather toy-like, so here's a new Ring, Bead, 4x 30cal MG and a pitot tube...
I had to drill a few 0.3mm holes, the ring & bead needs to be placed out of the fuselage-center (right side)...
Ring & bead installed.
The 4x 30cal machine-guns and pitot were also installed.
As you can see the gear, propeller and exhaust are now mounted too...
I still have some detail work ; some missing gear parts, the antenna, wires and some small weathering...
