Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Thread owner
Ouch Richard. I have been in a similar situation when I got caught up in a radio controlled aircraft prop. Had two fingers strapped up and they healed nicely.

Ah Steve...another walking wounded among us.

Cheers,
Wabble

I hope you'll recycle the gauze as a camo net at some point down the line. In all seriousness, hopefully it's a quick recovery!

Would love to but being an absorbable gauze nothing much is left when I open the dressing. The remainder unused gauze is barely 2x2cm in size and the mesh weave makes a pattern of tiny round holes and not the square criss cross weave on ordinary gauze.
Basically the wound has healed with no pain except for the unsightly gash. It's as if I over filed halfy my nail.
Gauze is so good that I'll save it for another bleeder...touch wood it doesn't happen.

Hi Guys, I'm back with this cursed build. The enthusiasm of priming, pre-shading sought of fizzled out when I took on the unfinished large dio for the Penang Show. That included the Bedouin and Donkey dio as well. It's been 10 months since I posted this build and have actually nearly finished it including the base so this will be image heavy with a few pauses to explain what I did...

If I can recall the last images was basically masking so here we go... Pre-shading.

Thanks Joe, Rich, Paul and Jim,

I've seen and done a similar scheme that had worm like squiggles instead of the large green patch. And yes the Hurricanes look better with the hispanos.

Here are more images of the Future application...

For obvious reasons the kit decals weren't the correct ones so I had to make some alterations and search for some appropriate ones. The A was a weird size and had to be cut out from an existing X.

At this point I glued on the propellers to the hub... and added another layer of Future over the decals to seal them in. It also removes any clouding from the reaction of the decal softener.
A pin wash from water colours brought up the panel detailing...

My favorite Testors Dullcote finished of sealing the wash and gave a satin matte to the final look. I left of the gun streaks and exhaust stains for the moment. Removed all the masking and wallah...

Thanks Joe and Tony, good to be back.

The base...

1000169349.jpg
Mixed up some spackle with dirt, white glue and poster paints and spread it over the top of the based that had masking tape around the edges. Used the Hurri to make the tyre marks then while the mixture was still semi wet I coated the top with more white glue and sprinkled grass flocking. the clumps of long grass was from varnish brush bristles stained green.

1000169519.jpg
Test fitted the Hurri onto the base and marked out the area that I was going to remove the grass from.

1000169822.jpg
The bald patch still looked a bit dark. Malta being an island I assumed that the bed rock would be coral or limestone and often seen images of their dirt roads looking very white. I mixed white into the sand colour and applied layers and adding more white till I was satisfied of the tone I wanted.

Nearly there, will dry brush with pure white at the final pass. I picked out some stones with the light colour mixture during the process. Figures next.

Hi there,
Currently in Malta near the Aviation Museum at Ta'Qali (unfortunately due to badly damaged knee won't be going in) and from what I've seen the predominant rock types are limestone and sandstone. So if your diorama is at the coast the beige finish is very close but inland the white finish is spot on. HTH.

Thanks Fellas,

Worked on three figures...two from my stash and one from the kit. You guessed it the pilot is from the kit. The mods I did for him was to turn his head to the right and replace his arms. The other two needed shorts and a lot of mods to get their poses right...

I posed them now and then on the base to make corrections. Click on the images to enlarge them.
