SimonT - 1/35 Miniart Dingo - Rons Recon GB

Kind of like the garage attendants in 'Ferris Buelers Day Off'. The "test drives" are often their own reward. PaulE

I got a call from Inspector Corner (of the Yard) to say that the Dingo had been located

Once back in the workshop I added a few more parts

various small bits of etch and three plastic bits still to add once I figure out where they are meant to go.....

Must have run out of petrol...good thing those yellow buggers didn't run it off the road. Nice little final additions Simon.

Cheers,
Richard

Steve - these Miniart kits are certainly comprehensive. They provide a good sized fret of etch - I think some of it must be for a different version though as I am unable to locate quite a few bits in the instructions. A lot of manufacturers give you a shaded diagram or list of parts not needed for the build but they don't appear to bother

Paul - well it was up on bricks.....

Richard - thanks. Various little bits being added - not far to go now

Graeme - ta

well, I have managed to fold and add four teeny etch brackets - didn't know what they were for, however, having found a stowage diagram it seems they held a wallet style map case so I will knock one up (probably from pewter) and install it

End of GB came and went without any fanfare as usual - nearly time for paint.........

Hi Simon
Glad it was returned so you could continue with the microscopic detailing.

Looking forward to seeing the map case. Fully embossed with a coat of arms on the front?? :smiling2:

Steve - no coat of arms, sorry

dingo-065_2019-12-5.jpg
this is what it should look like

dingo-064_2019-12-5.jpg
this was my first attempt - looking at it now it is rubbish (modelling when tired didn't work) so there will be a MkII version

Looking at the same reference photo I see that there should be some handles on the vision slot hinges - these are missing from the kit

Hi Steve - 0.152mm but thickness is not the problem, it fits just right in the etch brackets

The problem is I got the angle wrong on the flap corners and the snap fasteners are way too big

1/10 must try harder......

Scottie - couldn't leave it like that :smiling5:

dingo-066_2019-12-6.jpg
decided to draw it up in CAD during lunchtime yesterday then printed it out - paper is about same thickness as pewter but it has a bit of texture to it

much better this time

dingo-067_2019-12-6.jpg
dingo-068_2019-12-6.jpg
added some handles to the window openers as none in kit

dingo-069_2019-12-6.jpg
added strip and rivets along side of can racks - there were some etch bits for this but I lost one to the carpet

Nice work on the map case. The texture will paint up well. Liking the damage on the cans. Great stuff

Cheers Steve

Cans still need a rub with scotch pad to smooth the dents slightly

Mk2 Dingo's got sand channel mounts on the front, presumably as a result of crew experiences with the Mk1

I decided to make some sand channels to add as stowage scrounged by the crew

dingo-069_2019-12-8.jpg
drew up and printed a set of plans

dingo-071_2019-12-8.jpg
cut out a plan along with a piece of aluminium Pepsi Max (other colas are available) can then CA'd them together

After two failures caused by the drill bit wandering about I decided I needed to punch the centres of all holes

I used the compass point of my Olfa circle cutter to mark all the centres and drilled again

dingo-072_2019-12-8.jpg
dingo-070_2019-12-8.jpg
both side of the resulting perforated rectangles were sanded to remove the can coatings and the paper plan

etch bending tool then used to form the sides

hey presto, sand channels

Realised there are no magazines provided for the Bren mag rack so will knock some together

There is a .303 rifle provided that should mount under the rear roof section but no clips provided so that will also need addressing

Apart from the few accessories I think the main build is now complete
