Ian, Steve, Tim - thanks

Tim, many a true word spoken in jest......

Just had an enjoyable read up on this one Simon,
Like some of the guys,i had this set a while back, but moved them on.
I really like what you`re doing with this chap, the extra details will make him stand out from the norm, that`s for sure:smiling: .
Cracking stuff mate:cool:,
Andy

Brilliant ingenuity. You're definitely taking OOB to the extreme.

Could you use the bag staples for pinning the limbs?

Thread owner
Smiffy - they are a bit rubbish but I hope to get this one finished. The rest can stay in the box

Andy - DOH! I missed a trick there the staples would have done nicely

Neil - astonishingly bad :thumb2:

all looking very crappy blown up to this size - urghhhh

anyway, fitted a left arm after some slight modification - hollowed out the end of the sleeve, sawed between his fingers and modded the shoulder area so it sat against the body a little better

filled holes with green goop - that's going to be fun to clean up once it sets!

clamped into a holder as getting a bit delicate now

added the MG34 after sawing his fingers on the inside so that I could curl them around the barrel end

the MG is glued to the tip of his boot to provide a bit of stability

cut the bipod at the hinge and added it to the barrel in the folded position

the ammo box got some detailing added from more bits of sprue

just needs a carrying handle on the top now once I get the right arm sorted to hold it

Great OOB scratchery Simon. The green goop is something to remember if I run out off filler. Lets see how long it sets and pliable it is as I recall plastic is harder once mixed with glue and thinners when set.

Cheers,
Richard

Thanks Richard - I started out with sprue goop all those many years ago when I couldn't afford to buy proper filler

Don't remember it being particularly hard once dry but if it is I can always break out the angle grinder :smiling5:

Morning Simon
Quite amazing stuff going on. Must be hard not being able to reach into the "odds and ends for scratching" box.

Hi John - don't think he really merits a large wow but ta

Jim - certainly is :crying:

mg-050_2020-4-9.jpg
well he now has a right arm and green goop

will need to wait for all the goop to set - takes a while

then all i need to do is carve all the missing detail back in :anguished:

Think it does Simon, who else would go to such extremes on a small figure. Are you going to do the whole set :smiling2:

Wonderful work Mr T. It will always look better once the paint is on. Lovely craftmanship all round.

Thread owner
Thanks Lee

John - no, I think one is enough!

Steve - not sure it will. All a bit ropey looking and could very easily end up in the bin

Just caught up on this - amazing to see all the improvements made to such a small figure. Looking forward to the paint being on.
Superb work !!

Morning Mr T,
Trust you to attempt a makeover on this fellah...was looking ok till someone sneezed on him :smiling5:

Well you get a 10/10 for effort from me....if he looks a bit ropey after paint, you Could make a poncho for him;)

I think it's the snort that's unbecoming of him. He should look better after the carving. Working without actual putty gets extra marks in my book, Simon.

Cheers,
Richard

Cheers Nick

Si - does look a bit like that doesn't it :smiling5:

Richard - he should, but whether he will is another matter :smiling5:

Since I am waiting for the snot to set I knocked up a little base for him to stand on should he ever make it out of paint with any kind of success

mg-051_2020-4-11.jpg
ok the plinth is home cast and wasn't in the box but everything else is the box

mg-053_2020-4-11.jpgmg-052_2020-4-11.jpg
the 'rubble' is just superglue with bits of box and sweepings from my sanding tray pressed into it

the buildings are double skinned to give them a little thickness and strength but still too thin to accurately portray a wall, however, as a backdrop for the figure they should be ok

cobbles and bricks were drawn in with an embossing tool

once stuck together all parts were smeared with superglue - an interesting property of CA is that when a porous surface is soaked in it it becomes like plastic. As a result the whole thing is now very rigid like it has been made from plastic sheet

mg-054_2020-4-11.jpg
if it gets to the paint department I shall just paint the inside black

Ooh...memories of my early days material. :thumb2: Seriously when you're a kid stuck in the house, you use whatever is at hand...mums doily crochet even got nicked for camouflaged netting. :smiling2: Good one Simon.

Cheers,
Richard
