Back in June last year, I painted my S-79 Sparviero in a similar sort of camouflage.

All a bit late now, but I painted on the light biege/brown first. Then brush painted the green etc. I find it a lot easier to paint a darker colour over a light one.

Anyway, all the best with your camo.

I've now had the first swing at the Giallo Mimetico 3, or yellow as we will now call it.

It takes a while and there will be a little bit of touching up to do before I apply the third and final camouflage colour. I'm not doing that today because the crook of my right arm is aching after controlling the paint flow for the hours it took to do this!

The third colour should be easy as it is simply a matter of applying a mottle in the centre (ish) of each of the yellow patches. I reckon there's only about 400 of them! No, I haven't counted the bl++dy things ;)
 
Nice......very effective result. Will you be shading and highlighting each patch?
(I’m kidding, just couldn’t resist LOL)....
 
Wow! Impressive or what ! That looks amazing steve , these italian schemes are a bugger to achieve but when they turn out well they look seriously impressive. Out of curiosity whats your airbrush ? Its got some very fine control .
 
Steve, you've just done what so many modellers don't seem to do - look at an ACTUAL picture of an ACTUAL 'plane and go 'how did they do this in real life'. How long does it take the poor sod to do, and keep moving his step ladder...
Which would also explain how the 'smoke ring' / 'leopard' pattern comes about on later Italian aircraft.
It's quicker and easier
And it doesn't break your arm

I have now taken a stab at the Marrone Mimetico 3, or as I shall now call it, red.

With all due respect to Dizzee Rascal....

The actual model is really hard on the eyes, like wildlife film of a leopard moving through the undergrowth, so maybe it really worked! It does break up the outline, but it's a very complicated way of doing so.

I've sprayed the mottle with my little Iwata Revolution BR. I think that's a 0.3mm nozzle. The fine control, or sometimes not so fine, is yours truly. I did the yellow by spraying the outline of the shape, so that it would interlock with those adjacent, and then filling in. I'm sure that the pain on the inside of my elbow when I'd finished was somehow linked to the manipulation of the paint flow.

It took hours to spray the 'yellow', in two sessions separated by a cup of tea and a biscuit (it might have been a pork pie, but I digress). Using enamels meant that the paint didn't dry anywhere in the brush, I did have to give it a blast a couple of times as it did start to coat the needle.

The 'red' didn't take that long as it was just a squirt into the centre of each yellow blotch. The hard work was already done!
 
Great work Steve. That is a hard scheme, and you’ve more than done it justice!

The rain came, Hooray!

The paint has dried enough for me to unmask the underside and white markings. The upper camouflage wraps around the leading edges of the wings and elsewhere goes much lower than most other schemes, so you really don't see any of the underside colour.

That's it for today. Enamel paints mean that you can't rush, which for me at least is a good thing. A couple of coats of Klear tomorrow will be followed by the kit decals, which by all accounts are quite good.

Fantastico ! What an amazing job . Its got to rank as one of the most difficult schemes to do , it looks superb steve . Looking forward to the macchi mc202 in smoke ring camo next ;)

Really good - do you spray camouflage jackets as well -that looks about the same scale!
