Stash Storage

Oh dear I'm a hoarder...:confounded: I only have one kit of each of my favorite in my stash. Once I build it thats it not another one but circumstances in a dio call maybe for two same vehicles. I know guys who have multiple versions of the same kit...their excuse...to use up as in planes the decal sheets thay have accumulated or planning a division of armoured vehicles.

Cheers,
Richard

In my scale, I have very near 700 unbuilt kits on a single shelf over the top of my workbench.........space is not a concern when "Small is Beautiful" :smiling3: ;):thumb2: Rick H.

I feel a bit left out here, I only have 5 kits under the bench!

Wow Andy, I only wish I was that lucky.....I have to buy new heavy shelf units with wood shelf inserts as my plastic ones are all sagging in the middle from the weight of the kits. I have been selling some in evilbay and trying not to buy too many new ones. So far, so good..........

I do want to make an inventory and store it on the PC. Especially with PE and resin parts as I can never remember what I have in the stash. Then I go and buy another of a set I already have.......DOH!!!!

Prost

Mine are up in the loft , contributing to the insulation , decals stored in a file in the wardrobe . Its about 40 kits which Im trying to get down , the pandemic and subsequent cancelling of model shows / car boots etc has helped keep the number from growing ! As for keeping tabs on it Ive got a fantastic invention , its a small ring bound notebook which I write them in ! :smiling5::smiling5: As far as im concerned a spreadsheet is the tablecloth you put a buffet on ;)

Right Tony..........mine are all listed on note book paper....get one done, scratch it off the list......easy peasy....... ;) . Rick H.

I have 20 kits all but 3 scheduled for diorama.

A question. Why do people buy so many kits when there is no realistic possibility of building them ?

Beats wasting money on booze or gambling. I've got kits that i still 'hope' to build. But i'm a sucker for 1/32 Hasegawa/Revell Fw190 kits, so when they come up for a price i can afford i grab them. Especially the Hasegawa ones. They are like hens teeth.

A modern trend of companies doing limited runs. If you don't get one when they come out, you risk either never getting one or having to pay through the nose to get one.

Yes Alan but I have never bought 144 bottles of wine to look at on the shelf :tears-of-joy: :tongue-out2::tongue-out:

Sacrilege at it's worst.

My family collects malt whisky. They don't get drunk. Just an investment (given current interest rates).

PS> Sorry Ian. My bad. Sorry to OP

At 82 going on 83 Ian do not think that will bother me.

Got enough for probably 3 years. Mmm 86. W

Because you have a good idea for a model, buy the basic kit (and possibly accessories to use with it), and then another good idea comes along and this repeats.

Now very seriously.

If you do have to many kits or can spare some then perhaps you could spare some for this organization.
I can see nothing better.

These servicemen (and women must not for get as they are equal) serve us & look after us in this wild world. We should be looking after them.

This is the article which will explain. I came across it some years ago. So any kits which now bore you, must be some mateys.

So have a look here. They send you a mug as well emblazoned with Models for Heroes. Great stuff. Cannot be bad can it

Hi all, I have a stash of about 144 kits which is not massive, but they are filling up all under my desk, in the bookcase on now flowing out onto the floor space. How and where are people storing their kits?
Mine are kept in two locations. A few in my shed where I build, and are next up on the bench. The rest are inside large plastic storage containers in my garage, elevated off the ground and sealed with the lids that come with the containers.

I keep an Excel sheet so I know which container I can locate them, and I make notes and keep reference pictures in folders on my laptop so I don't have to research again. When I build them I do a simple build log with brief notes on the process. I can then identify paints and materials used, how I did any adjustments or conversions, and it doubles up as a note sheet for when I post my finished builds here.
