Tim’s 1/48 Tamiya Mosquito FB Mk VI

All looking splendid Tim. I was just thinking, what must have it been like, firing those guns, when they are right there, in front of you.

Cheers Colin. Agreed about the cannon, and remember the four mgs are located in the front of the bomb bay behind and under your seat as well……don’t know if you could fire them all together, but it would be a hell of a row if you could.

Actually you could.... Let me find a picture in one of my books.

Here you go....I think I have a better version somewhere else but you get the idea...... Just imagine being on the receiving end of that.....4 20mm cannons and 4 .303 machine guns...

Excellent picture Andrew. That’s a lot of metal in a small footprint isn’t it!

Hi Tim,

Here's the other version. Although in hindsight I think the double-page spread has better definition.

As for the amount of metal in the "footprint", it's just dawned on me that we're only seeing the tracer rounds......about 1 in 5 I believe...... that really is a lot of lead......

ATB.

I'm not saying that 5 in 1 is incorrect Andrew (because I don't know) but we used what was termed 'Four Bit' in our GPMGs - ie 4 Ball to 1 Tracer round - I wonder if they're the same thing?
Steve

Can't be a coincidence..... Surely? I've got 1 tracer round in 5 in my head for some reason.... But can't remember where I got it from....or if it referred to British or German ammo loads

It doesn't really matter.......it's pretty much up to the ordnance officer and the dictates of the mission commander as to what sort of "Fruit Salad" gets mixed up. At least on Aircraft....on the ground.....may be different.

Call me a cynic, but perhaps they used 100% tracer to make the photo more impressive. Whatever, you wouldn't want to be on the receiving end.

I'm loving the detail Tim. It's making me want to try a larger than 1/72 scale aircraft next time and try some of this mystical PE I keep hearing of.

You think it's mystical hearing about it...... Try using some of it.....still have dreams/nightmares for my only extensive go at it!!;):smiling5::cold-sweat:

Cheers Mike. Give it a go, it really isn’t that hard it just takes a slight change of mindset and different glue…..in this case it can be looked at as mostly metal stickers with no glue. The only slightly tricky part are the seat belts. The biggest trick with PE is to cut it out on a hard surface. If you use a cutting board it can distort. I use a scrap of MDF shelf.

I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous reply :smiling5:

Just catching up Tim, lovely work so far :thumb2:

The cockpit is amazing I had to check what scale it is, with the amount of detail packed in I thought it was 1/32 :surprised:.

Geoff.
