What was the problem with the diamond T. I've been after one of those for a while

I am amazed at you all - except you Ian. Clearly my build rate is less than acceptable. I wonder if I need to shed some hobbies and build more plastic ?

its not a race...........you should build at a speed thats good for you. i slowed down a lot over the years, otherwise i got to feel like a production line and the enjoyment went out of the hobby......a few years ago i was building 25-30 year, but it just felt like a chore and i sort of 'burnt out'....these days i go for less,........ quality (sometimes) rather than quantity and i enjoy it much more

No Paul, I'm certainly not suggesting it's a race. It's all for fun, it's a hobby. But 2.5 builds in 8 months, I think I can improve on that. Well I say that.........................

Hi Colin

I have the opposite problem, I cant slow down, If a kit needs more detail.. but I am close to completing it, I wont slow down, and in haste will make a mistake just to see it completed.

I have completed 31 models since the start of the year... need to half that this year to achieve better quality, and a more satisfying build.  I need to be more patient, more importantly I need to learn how to be patient.

I am aiming to slow down and do 15-20 in around the same time. How I achieve to do that is still a mystery to me

Well, I don't know if I had an early release (bought on eBay) but I put in a few weeks, and that just about got the chassis done. Every part, and I mean EVERY part put up enormous resistance to being removed from the sprue, demanded extensive clean-up, (and I'm not exaggerating when I say 10-15 minutes on each tiny part, well, those that didn't break) and then didn't fit properly. Quite a few cross members on the chassis were meant to fit into recesses int the chassis - they didn't, well, not without some brutal trimming, which often ruined the much-vaunted  surface detail. Sprue gates were massive, and many were in ridiculous placing, and were often very tricky to clean off. The instructions were sketchy, and the styrene shiny and brittle. By the time I'd got the chassis mostly done, I felt like I had an unassailable task ahead of me, so I put it all back in the box for "another day".

I love building models, but as long as there are beautifully made kits out there, I don't really need this - I don't mind a bit of flash, and a few ejector pins to clean up, but I still have no idea at all, how I'd ever get the steering wheel off the sprue on this kit, this kit is for enthusiasts only, and ones with a lot of patience and skill. As I mentioned earlier, maybe they sorted these problems out before selling all the duff ones to eBay shop owners, but it's beyond me!

Edited to add:

if you haven't already built a Tamiya Deuce and a Half, I'd get one of those, beautiful build of a lovely truck with lots of scope for modification!

We are talking about the Mirror Models kit here aren't we. I have built a few of them and they have been exceptionally good. Dare I say  better than Tamiya ?

If I where you I would have sent it back and asked for another. It does happen sometimes that the quality controls fail (or go for a pee). It only takes a tiny bit of dirt in the machinery and the moulds cant close completely. That does not explain the badly place attachment points though! If I ever find one, I will have a good look in the box before handing over the folding stuff.

Thanks for the reply.

I am only into 10 to date and i am at it most of the day every day, but all of mine are dios, some resins and one scratch build have also spent the last two weeks drawing plans for a new railgun and at about 24 inches long in 1 72 it is going to be big and take a long time.

yup! and some of the detailing is cracking, but im convinced that the chassis parts (and theres thousands of them) are from older moulds than the body parts. I may, as I say, go back to it when Ive got a bit more experience under my belt, but as things stand, I'm happy to let it sit in the corner!

Just an Eduard 1/48 Fw 190D-9 LATE, due to myself coming back into the hobby in late may early april.....

Will be starting a big 1/32 Bf 109G-2 soon though

Dang.... O.o

I finished the Skyline and started the 1989 Batmobile + batcave.......that is about it.... :P
