Just an idea.....sparked by the fact that very soon i will be doing an airfix kit that was new tool in 1960

They keep punting out old kits as 'vintage classics'.........basically really old stuff that owes them nothing cos the investment in the tooling was paid off decades ago......i had a look at the current list......34 kits.....oldest 1959 newest 1977

We always slate these kits as old and tired but they are usually good fun

How about a GB where the kit was new tool before say 1980....which would make it 54+ years old......easy to check new tool date on Scalemates......wouldnt matter if your box was from 1964 or 1984 or 2004 or 2024......its the fact it was new tool pre 1980.....still the same nadgery old tooling

See if people can make a silk purse out of that pigs ear and have fun along the way

whats any one think?

Personally I think the OLD tools should be melted down and new ones made!

Agreed!

I was thinking sometime next year when theres a gap in the calendar.....no rush......see if any one is interested first

Count me in Paul. like many on here I already have an original vintage Airfix kit that has been festering for years. It will give me a good excuse to get it built.

I just realised, I've the very thing... An old Airfix that's innaccurate for what it's supposed to be, but just right for what I want to do

However... Is the idea to be OOB or how much 'accurizing' would be permissable?

I think 'accurizing' would be perfect

Either build it as is like we did when we were young uns and didnt know any better or go for it and improve it to show what can be done with it

Key thing is to have fun......and for the ķit to be from before the 'new tòol' cut off date we decide on

Great idea Paul. I would like to join in providing the dates work. As you said ".... a gap in the calendar". Maybe after the memorial GB for Alan?

Lol i just looked that up......definatly fits in!

Originally released in 1956......the last time airfix tweeked it with new parts was 1966!.....thats coming up for 70 years old

I'm not sure that I have the mental fortitude to tackle an ancient Airfix kit :p but would hate to miss out on a GB so I'm up for it, if it goes ahead.

I have a few likely candidates from the remnants of my teenage stash that I've been holding onto for the past 45 years or so. I'll just need to select something suitable that won't cause me to lose the will to live part way through..... so probably not the B29 then.... and I might need to source new decals...

Nick

I'll join in sometime next year if there is a spot available after recovering and coming out of the loony hospital having done four relic Airfix kits, the Re8, Bolton Paul Defiant(the old one), HP42 and most recent the Belvedere.

I'll search for another suitable candidate...I've got stacks of them just waiting for an opportunity and some torture.

Cheers,
Wabble
