.... over what kits might be released.....

I spotted on the dreaded Facebook that HK Models have been asking opinions about a 1/32 scale Short Sunderland.

Now their 1/32 B17 is big, their Lancaster will be even bigger, but if they do a 1/32 Sunderlnd it will dwarf the others with a wingspan of 42" (39" for the Lancaster).

We will certainly need the wall fixings they supply to be able to display that one! Mind you even on a wall it is a high aircraft and will stick out by over 12".....

I will just have to get one. I am sure I can find somewhere in my garage to fix it to the wall.... I just love the Sunderland and well remember when I was a child back in pre-history my grandfather buying me the 1/72 Airfix one....

I also understand they may do a Halifax and B24, not to mention a B26 as well....after the Lancaster and a P51B/C.

This is a great time to be a modeller.....

What do you think and will you build the Sunderland?

It sounds great Barry. You should build it.

I did the 1/72 not too long ago Barry and that's big enough never mind 1/32.

But I'll look forward to you getting and building it

By the way the pic is just one I found on the web, I did not build that one......

I wouldn't build one. Not because I don't like it or it will be a bad model, I just would not have anywhere to put it.

I have a weird 'memory' of these aircraft. When I was at school (yes I did go and no it wasn't 'approved:mad:... be quiet at the back!) anyway, when I was at school we went on a Youth Hostel trip by coach. One of the YH was in Ryde, Isle of Wight. Now I am not sure of the date but it would have been early 1960s. My 'memory' was that as we crossed over on the ferry, I believe I saw a number of these anchored on a sandbank. I can see them now in my mind but I cannot be sure that it isn't a fake memory. I have not been able to find any info of if any were left there, possibly ready for breaking up, I just don't know.

i wouldnt want one..........i struggle to find room for twin engined 1/72 aircraft!!!

and how would you paint it?.........you would need a walk in spray booth :P

but if you are going to have a go at it id love to watch ;)

Sounds amazing barry , huge though! Its a very charismatic aircraft and like a lot of people i made the airfix one as a kid and have a very soft spot for them , id love to see them make it and love to see one built, cheers tony

Personally once things get up to that size, they had better be fly able lol.

To big for me but I think it is great that they may be taking it on.

I will watch very close when you do a blow by blow on your one.

Ive seen the 'Sanger models' 1/48 vacform Sunderland built up and that is a very big model. A 1/32 would be too big for me.Looking forward to your build thread though Barry!.
