What's on the Bench? 2021

Glad you are liking it Paul........I never would have built the Damn thing! :tongue-out3:
Rick H.

I may not either:nerd:, it's really well molded, but the PE is microscopic.

Been back to have some fun with this. Meng Toon Tiger 1 with scratch interior. Not overly pleased with my painting, but been a fair few weeks since painting any sort of detail, so put a bit of it down to lack of practice. Wasn't great with a brush to start with!
Anyway...added some paint and started some weathering. Lots of touchups needed.

A superb build John. The world of paper modelling has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years. Here in the UK we need to do some catching up but in Europe it has a massive following. This is me with a paper bazooka. Very realistic

As a keen paper modeller myself, I'd agree it's woefully under-represented in the hobby in the UK. The complexity and detail of European paper models is probably not much understood over here. As an example, here's a 'sprue shot' of my model of Himeji Castle, and the finished model.

...and some paper models are much, much more complicated than this.

That's amazing, simply amazing? What 'scale' is it meant to be, assuming it's meant to be a specific scale.

Agree with my learned friend Andrew that's damned good young Jack, nowt wrong with your painting.

Thanks, Himeji Castle is 1:160th.

I've put these up before, so I hope it's not an infringement to repeat post them. These are at the limit of what I'm prepared to attempt, but there are way more complex paper models available, too. The Bofors is 1:25th, the fire truck is 1:24th.

That gun looks as if it's from a plastic kit Paul it's so good . The only way I could see it was card / paper was in the last photo showing the internal of the cab .Very impressive indeed .

They're brilliant Paul.....I thought they were plastic at first.

Very well done indeed.

Andrew

Just to give you an idea of the agonies involved in building these (and to prove the Bofors is also paper), here's some of the parts that go into making a single tyre for it. Cutting the treads - aargh! I think I might take up making tank tracks from individual links for some light relief ;)

Wow, That is a huge amount of work for a wheel……the thought of cutting out the tread gives me the shivers….

On another (non-modelling) forum I’m on, someone posted a thread about the paper tank models he builds. These have individual track links made up of a ton of parts each, including separate guide horns you have to cut out and fold … I looked at it and replied my plastic track links suddenly didn’t seem so bad anymore :)

Those paper models are unbelievably good. Quite amazing.

If anyone wants to try a paper model, Marcle Models is the supplier of choice here in the UK.

You're having a giraffe surely! Plastic suddenly good ...!

Waiting for a new set of tracks for my BV 206 (if Takom will ever send me not the replacement tracks, that would be asking for too much, :rolling: but a sign, at least!:disappointed2: :disappointed2::angry:) I began to spread some glue on that:

The purist might point out that the gun is not the correct one, and he would be right. The OTO 120/44 (some say is a /45...) gun of the Ariete MBT is a little different from the standard Rheinmetall 120/44 and the most visible difference is in the fume extractor shape. The kit has the Rheinmetall fume extractor and after a close examination of the 2 resin barrels I found in the box (the kit was a gift from a friend) I decided that the wrong fume extractor would have been the minor issue as all the other details on the two resin barrels would have required a lot of sanding and sculpting, which I wasn't willing to do on resin parts.
A nice fitting of parts, no significant flashes, instructions with ample margin of improvement (as well as my patience in dealing with them:tired:).. All in all, a relaxing build.:relieved:
