Scale Model Shop

Workbench, show us yours

I do the gluing stuff in the 3rd bedroom, over the last 6 months or so I have been slowly redesigning the bench, bought a few hobbyzone units and more dspiae tools, neater but still not 100% happy.

The spraying is done in the garage, as I use lacquer paints, the smell would mean the loss of my teeth lol. So my builder chum with me as a labourer built a room inside the garage. Not perfect. Constantly fighting bugs, spiders and condensation!

But we are actively looking for a bungalow and I will definitely have a dedicated room. So no more getting to the garage and forgetting something, happens every time!

Not tidy. Same bench since late 70s, so I know where everything is. This was taken when working Ukraine Dio, some engineers & some Tigers.

This is where I do my thing . . . when I do! Hopefully more so moving forward

Note my tiny assistant Bandai Namco '30MinuteSister' Tiasha. That little katana is useful when she cuts parts from sprues with the precision of a ninja!

Although I think she's hid my Typhoon instructions, I'm sure I left them right there!

Mecha Musune is a thing for me now!

Some cracking looking set ups .how many times do we clean our area for it to look a total tip with in a few weeks of building/painting

I'm a bit fussy that way, I really don't enjoy clutter, it's why i have so many little drawers to keep everything tidy, sometimes I have to clutter stuff to photograph it to make it look more lifelike!

It's also one reason I don't 'weather' my builds!

Here’s my little corner of sanity 😊

Work bench area (obviously 🙄). I keep extra tools, weathering stuff and other assorted odds and ends in the draws, actually they could do with a clean out.
I’ve just put up the cork board. I thought it would be useful for pinning reference photos to.

The little draws are for all the tools that I use more often. The little easel is very useful for keeping the instructions visible but out of the way of the work area.

Cheers 👍

That looks just about right to me, orderly, but wouldn't be afraid of messing it up a bit.
Nice painting area too, Iooks like a decent spray booth?

As always, some great work areas.

In my case, as some of you will know, the below table in my kitchen is it. To be honest I do sometimes wonder how I manage to get on with such a small space and turn out vaguely reasonable builds.

My daughter did move out about 9 months ago but she told me that I was not allowed to use her room for modelling purposes......and in any case my wife has claimed it as hers, as a sort of dressing room, as she is now off to work much earlier than me....so whilst I would like the room, at least I don't get woken too early.

Must admit I'm a bit OCD about mess. I have always been the "tidy" one in our house.
I think it comes from being brought up/taught by my parents to always tidy up after ourselves, and also as my years as a plumber, (many years ago) when I was working in occupied houses, so you had to keep things clean and tidy up at the end of every day.
My garage/study does not always look very tidy, but I know exactly where everything is....!

That’s the spirit Peter, “ a place for everything and everything in its place” 😊

I always put things back in there proper place, that way you know where they are when you need them.
Also clean up equipment before putting it away, especially important i think with airbrushes.
Grew up in a small flat so tidiness was important, our small 1800's cottage is the same in that respect.
