Pass on our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Jen, time to learn to cook then, Chris? I've actually got a couple of 'period' cookbooks myself (Shirley has several!) one's dated 1915, the other one is from the 1950's, both have some 'interesting' (read now illegal! e.g. turtle soup, which requires a live turtle ) recipes in them, but also have some tasty ones as well (my favourite is an apple and custard tart from the older book)

sorry to hear this chris , pass on my best wishes to jen for a speedy recovery ( well as speedy as five months can be ). Also pass on my condolences to the saucepans for the future treatment theyre going to get :smiling5:

Sorry to hear that Chris, all the best to Jen. I had a bad ankle fracture in about 1977 so I have some idea what it can be like - it's not fun at all.
Pete

That’s terrible Chris :anguished:.

I hope the surgery goes well and Jen gets better soon.

Geoff.

Chris,

So very sorry to hear the news. Hope the surgery has gone ok. As the best to her.

Andrew

Sorry to hear about Jen Chris, here's to speedy recovery.

So sorry to hear about Jen's accident, and I really hope that her road to recovery is speedy and trouble free. She will need to take it easy for a while.
All the best to you both
Garry

Chris...the idea of cooking is to be present at the stove at all times and watch the liquids reduce to a certain level and top up if necessary. :smiling6: Next you're going to tell me you burnt your soup. :smiling5:

Cheers,
Richard

HI Richard funny you should mention that about soup not burnt but boiled over onto jens cooker as it one of these new fangeled things where it heats up then cuts off an then cuts back in again an suppose to be an engergy saver but in my opinion it uses more eletric heatin up again than a stove that just stays on an its one of those glass topped bleedin thing an well i got another rollickin off jen as she had to clean the soup off as must not use scourers on it but must gently wipe it off which takes time an now with me in charge of the kichen i think id better get some fire insurance lol
chrisb ps Richard cheers for the advice lol

I just landed on this Chris.................what an impossibility!! I'm not sure mate, but it sounds as if yer cooking is far worse than Jen's ankle. :tongue-out3: Hope she recovers with little or no complications. As to you kind sir, you would be well advised to stay out of the kitchen and follow the advice already given. I can't imagine what your chances of survival might be if you put one foot wrong in HER domain...........I shudder to think of the consequences!!
All the best to you and Jen.
Rick

Sorry to learn of Jens accident. Ankles are a nasty one to break. The bone is fairly narrow and has a large load to bare. Often give a clean break as well which does make the healing slow and weaker. A break with more than millimetre of gap will normally get a plate and a couple of screws. I was lucky and was just under so I just had a cast.
Wish her well and look on the bright side. It's salad season!

Blimey mate - you and yours are certainly in the wars at the moment! Hope Jen recovers well, (and before you go off the rails with your new-found freedom!)

Chris, I'm really sorry for Jen. I hope she'll recover soon. :sad-face:
Cooking, to me, is very similar to modelling: you have several pieces (ingredients) you're supposed to clean and then put together in the correct sequence following the instructions (recipe), add some custom bling (ingredients not in the recipe but that you like), let it cure (cook) for the right amount of time, put on a base/dio (dish with some vegetables, sauce or whatever you like) and then eat it. Don't forget thinners (water, beer, wine) and to clean the working station before SWMBO decides that is your ankle that deserves to be broken. :rolling:
