Why don't all models come with a masking set?

I've never used a mask set before and worked out a way round it. I have been successful with strips of masking tape, forceps or tweezers and a sharp new blade. A well Futured glazing is prerequiste for both the tape and paint to adhere to. Never use fingers to apply the tape strips...mastering...

Italeri Hudson Mk IV 1/72 scale.

Hi guys, started my pre-shading and realised I hadn't posted some remaining wip shots before working on my latest vignette for MALCOM. So here they are, basically spraying a light coat of grey primer to get a neutral base. Although the Mr Surfacer primer is matt and smooth it somehow grabs...

Reinforcing the Gustav Line, Italy 1944

Hi Tim, working groundwork as I know it. The best part about dios is using the stuff that has been collected over the past, stuff that at the beginning seemed destined for a future diorama which people often discard. Groundwork is not always just pouring sand white glue, it's sculpting, finding...

    Proud parent....update on Junior

Congratulations to both parents and Junior on the A Level results. You definitely have the right to be proud. I know how it feels as an Asian whose never gotten into Uni, we literally break our backs to get the best education for our children. Cheers, Wabble

Mission Complete WIP of completed vignette.

Thanks Paul, glad you like the detailing. Here's more... Painted the faces and goggles...on close scrutiny they look so nitty gritty but with the naked eye looks okay with me. Rest of the body is still in base colours... Bike also painted...just needs wash, highlights and weathering...

    Next figure painting project

You are really testing your eyes there John. Nice painting, a little on the rough but you've got the highlights where they should be. Blending would soften the edges or are you going the artistic route ala Van Gogh taking to account the viewing distance. Cheers, Wabble

    Steve's Airfix 1/72 Mig 29A Fulcrum

Steve, the misalignment with the panel lines on the nose should align if you press the nose down. it should have a downward canter and that will lessen the gap of the whole length of this section. Cheers, Wabble

What flew over your house today... or yesterday... v2.0

Sad news, the Kamov that flies over my house was destroyed in a fire on the ground while doing maintenance yesterday. I would have seen the plume of smoke but I was at the vet. Didn't realise until I saw the aviation news on Youtube. On another note, Luftwaffe Typhoons did a pass over when they...

Letov s16 in 1/72 KP models

Definitely an obscure kit for me but the name surely "letoff" a loud chuckle.🤣 You're doing wonders with this kit, Tony. Good thing you solved old kit issues with out a "letoff" of expletives. I just had some curry so expect some "letoffs"...what a name. Seriously I like these weird...

    Steve's Airfix 1/72 Mig 29A Fulcrum

It's a beautiful aircraft in the air or on the ground, Steve. Unfortunately our members have had some issues building the Airfix kit, the same as you are facing now. Miss the sound of these flying overhead around this time of the year preparing for our National day fly overs. Now it's replaced...

    Takom 1:35 Pz.kpfw.I Ausf. A

The Panzer I's are nice little models to build with lots of detail, corners and ridges for washes and dry brushing like an armoured car with tracks. You've done a fine job on this kit. It's a wonder men could fit in it. Cheers, Wabble

    New person to the mix

Hi John, welcome aboard... now there are four 'Johns' I know of here. Both of your choice subjects are interesting as they are rarely seen built here since I joined... the BUFF and THUD. Looking forward to you sharing images of them. Cheers, Richard aka Wabble

Mission Complete WIP of completed vignette.

This continues... Added some final touches to the base with saplings and painted the fallen trunks to look like fallen Birch. Plugged the birch tree attachment points. Then sprayed a highlight of desert sand and made ready for snow fall. Also made a first pass painting the Birch tree...

    Pushing Back .......

What a quickie Toto, you managed to do a lot. I think it's okay for the planks to be a bit odd and natural. Not all premises were made by present day top of the line architects and artisans. I visited the old street houses in Malacca which were built by the Dutch when they were the colonist at...

    Model makes.

I still torture myself with the older kits even when I have the latest in my stash...dunno why. Challenge I guess or nostalgia? The Re8 was something else and was fun with a mold older than I was. The latest jet was a Sea Hawk by Trumpeter that went well. The latest tank was an AFV M18...

    Next figure painting project

Great to see you back into figure painting John B. Aaw!! ...I was hoping to see a fair maiden with long flowing golden hair in the tower. Well will have to settle for a pot bellied bar steward.😅 Cheers, Wabble

    Happy Campers

Great to see your dark series of dioramas again Tim. Are you sure the Grim Reaper wasn't attracted to your atmospheric builds. Reminds me of Tim Burton's classics and his type of lighting. Very unique style and hard to miss. Looking forward to seeing your Ukraine dio. You're freezing there, I'm...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Thanks Paul, unfortunately the big dios didn't win anything this year at MALCOM. Thanks Toto, groundwork is usually the hardest to pull off scale wise. Dirt in 1/35 is almost like dust. For snow which are made up of fine crystalised moisture in the air can be best simulated with micro-balloons...

Reinforcing the Gustav Line, Italy 1944

I already like where this is going Tim. The layers are the key to the composition and telling the story. Three years...okay made reservations to a nearby hotel and brought along a comfortable designer chair. Cheers, Wabble

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

The last five... Painting them individually and not enmass helped give their different identity. Everyone got the same snow sludge. There are three walking figures that are repeated but reposed and modified. I may not touch this dio for a while now. Cheers, Wabble
