Scale Model Shop

Big movie to model.

Ray Hanna flying the Spitfire under the Bridge in "piece of cake" would be a good one. Especially for someone that is really ace at doing diorama with water and bridges and all that...
Hmm who could that be...?

I've always wanted to do the scene from Kelly's Heroes,
Where Oddball's Sherman fires the pink paint shell at the rear of the Tiger :smiling3:
Andy
I've thought a little too much about doing the whole of the centre of "Clermont" (Vizinada) over the past couple of years. Tigers in the square, Cowboy up the tower, Kelly & Oddball in the buildindg and the rest coming in to town.

It'd be a hell of a dio.

A subtly lit box diorama depicting one of the tense moments in the (sail, fin etc) conning tower from 'Das Boot' - 1/35 scale, scratchbuilt interior! Beyond me I'm afraid :disappointed2:

Used to be a bridge over a road in Winchester called spitfire bridge because someone supposedly did just that…..unfortunately when the road was upgraded and widened it was taken down. Here it is…

There is a mock up picture around, but it’s actually not true. Apparently it was a P40 that did the deed, and clipped one of its wings avoiding a lorry coming the other way….

All of Derek Robinson’s books (what the TV series was based on) are worth reading, by the way…..

Excellent TV series, but the book is even better. If you haven’t read it, get a copy. You won’t be disappointed.

I've forwarded this recommendation to my Supplier (SWMBO) with a 'not-very subtle' hint - may be unlucky for a while as she's just
bought me the Das Werk Pak 40 (of which I'll post an in-box review very soon) - I have ordered some flowers though, so who knows?!
Steve ;)

Why not the 20th Maine on Little Round Top from "Gettysburg" or the Storch (well, not really a Storch but it was meant to be a Storch) landing while the island garrison is playing football on the landing strip in "Mediterraneo" link?
I'm aiming high, considering my skills in figure painting, but dreams and desires are for free (yet).

Well if we’re going that way Andy, what about the 54th Massachusetts assaulting Fort Wagner at the end of Glory…..still my favourite ACW film by miles.

When the Airborne Forces Museum was located at Browning barracks in Aldershot I was always fascinated by a 1/72 diorama of the northern end of the bridge at Arnhem during the attack by an SS unit. It featured a section of the bridge and ramp with the towns buildings around it.
It must have been about 8 feet square.
I have no idea what happened to it , or many of the other exhibits, when the museum closed.

Probably all relocated to the Middle Wallop museum of army flying. They have a significant section on airborne operations, though it’s been a few years since I last went and I can’t remember if it was there or not….

I don’t think it went there, didn’t see it on my last visit in 2019.

Here is one I did a few years ago - the film based on the book based 8DE57472-89A9-4E8A-8262-4F2ACB2BAAD4.jpegE0F2E03E-0746-434A-B824-2A66DB22976B.jpegon the true story. . It's still a great read, and a great film.

Who wrote that? Was it Paul Brickhouse, or is my memory failing me as well as my other parts ... ?

Duxford is now the Airborne museum I believe so it could be in there.

The Bridge at Remargen has a few scenes. Making it with movie Chaffey tanks would be funny. Shermans were the real ones but by that time I think there were a few Chaffeys.

The one I really like to make is the Ox & Bucks exiting their Horsa with the Orne or Caen canal bridge just less than a hundred scaled down yards away.

Cheers,
Richard
