Colin's Battle Of Britain GB chat thread

He started with a Red Arrow Hawk, but the decals nearly scared him off.....

I started with a Priest from matchbox.

Well, Mercedes completed, bench clear, next build loaded and ready to go.

Nope. The only boy and loved aircraft from WWII. It was an old 1/72 Revell Lancaster Dambuster

I started with a blue plastic Spitfire in a bag, not box.

It was outside my price range, but I could always cadge a few coppers (or bob) off my grandad, and that's exactly what I did :smiling3:

I have a vague memory of those Airfix kits in bags costing 2s 6d, while my weekly budget was just two bob, but that maybe nostalgia and a newer memory working together!

There was a Halifax available, as well as a Lancaster. I 'gave' the Halifax to my little brother because, even then, I didn't fancy the wavy demarcation between the Night and upper camouflage colours.

pretty certain my first kit was an Airfix spit.......if not in a bag then in the plastic see through box-on-a-card

It would have been Airfix, it would have been in a bag, and it would have been around 1967, but I can’t remember what it was......

Mine was this:

More here :)

Airfix - bagged - Renault Dauphine - remember the little gel capsules of cement? Curiously like cod liver oil capsules today!

Aw Gee...I was going to add that mine was a TigerMoth just like the BOB pilots first love before moving onto either the Hurri or Spit.

Cheers,
Richard

Starting tonight on Ch5 @9pm and running for 3 nights is a Docu-series on the BoB.
Better than watching Love Island..............

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but several of us seem to be taking a swing at a Spitfire, which is appropriate given the title of the GB.

If it should go somewhere else, then I'm sure one of the mods will move it.

This is a compilation of information about the Spitfire compiled from the various posts and discussions that the late Edgar Brooks provided for us all. It's 37 pages that will answer most of the questions that people making Spitfire models are likely to ask.

https://topnotch-success.net/wp-con...es-from-Edgar-Brooks-version-201804031428.pdf

Edgar could be quite opinionated, but he put in the leg work, trawling the various museums and archives to seek out the material on which those opinions were based. He really knew his Spitfires and though he is sadly no longer with us, in this compilation his knowledge of the Spitfire is preserved.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks @stona I don't think Khaden will be looking for his spit but once I start my MkIX it may come in useful.

is there a limit to the number of items you can build in the GB ?
I have a 1/72 bf-109 a 1/72 spitfire and a 1/10 RAF pilot bust i would need to choose between

A limit - no. If you can fit them all in, go for it.
