Hi all!

I thought I would join up with the forum with the hope that I could read through them and pick up on a wealth of knowledge. Having a quick scan though now I can see I'm going to have lots of techniques to learn!
My Grandad used to make scale models when I was a young boy. I always remember walking into the back room and seeing wooden book shelf's full of models he had made through the years. His weakness was tanks, but he built all sorts.

One of the reasons I am here is because when he passed away almost 2 years ago I inherited a Scale model he had never touched (This was quite often the case, especially when his eyesight started to go and he didn't have the steady hand he once did) The model is an Revell Apollo SATURN V 1/96 scale.

I would love to get this model built and standing proud however it's too advance for what I can do or manage at the moment. I'm not sure when he purchased it, but from what my family have said they can't remember a time it wasn't sitting in the corner of the room gathering dust. I have bought a cheap £9.99 Messerschmitt from Revell just to get my hand in and see how I get on.

I've attached a picture of the box so you can all see what I am talking about :)

Hopefully talk to you all soon

Hi Adam
We all have to start somewhere, so welcome aboard. Ask any questions you want, someone will have an answer, and it might even be useful ;)

Evening Adam,

Welcome to the loony bin and greetings from Germany. Dive in and have fun! We don't bite, except maybe on Thursdays................

Prost

Welcome Adam,
good idea, to try a smaller model, before moving onto a biggie! Larger models have a set of problems of their own - mainly due to the sheer large areas you have to paint....................

welcome to the party

you might want to get a few kits under your belt before tackling that Saturn......thats going to be an epic kit to do

Adam,
Welcome aboard you have found a great bunch of guys. I look forward to seeing you around. Where do you hail from?

Welcome and don’t be afraid to ask questions, present company excepted the depth of knowledge here is fantasti.

Welcome to the mad house Adam. Enjoy your new found hobby ( soon to turn into an obsession). Ask questions, take your time but most of all have fun.

Welcome on board Adam, good you're starting with a smaller kit. That Saturn V rocket is quite an easy build as most of the parts are large. The rocket booster sections are basically empty and made mostly by roĺling large sheets of plastic card into cylinders. The complex parts would be the rocket nozzles for each stage and the command module with the Eagle lunar module(a model in itself) tucked in its compartment. I think you have a transparent section to view it.
I built this kit when I was twelve and if I can do it you can.

Cheers,
Richard

Welcome to the boards, Ron has summed everything you need to know about the hobby in his signature.
