Scale Model Shop

Latest Acquisitions (2021)

I’ve had the ship book a while as well, and agree with Bob. Well worth it. Dazzling PT boat as well Jim…..you’ve got to do that camo!

Bit of an impulse buy on ebay . This is just my sort of thing , an unusual/ seldom seen subject . The kit is the old Heller tooling , very nicely detailed ( on the outside anyway !) but with the advantage of excellent decals by propagteam ( the Heller decals were always plagued by very yellow carrier film ) 3F812C83-BE8E-4DC2-9086-3A01CDE2C3C2.jpeg22640150-3888-4545-8452-16474A72B706.jpeg9B677AFA-60B0-4013-A414-523E0F34B4E9.jpeg97A86584-0125-4F8C-857D-D76DD1F6C3C3.jpeg

I’ve wanted a D.520 for some time, but can’t find anywhere that sells a good one (I don’t think I want to fiddle with the old Heller kit or its current incarnations).

I got this cheap off Ebay as I have taken a fancy to floaty things and I will use this model to test the water as they say. ;)

If I don't like building ships then I have not wasted a lot of money.

I know in 1/72 RS models do one , and theres the easy assembly Hobbyboss one too . Theres always the Tamiya 1/48 but they seem to be few and far between . Some of the Heller kits arent too bad really , if you can live with raised panel lines and a distinct lack of interior details , the SMER reboxings are the best bet though as they have excellent decals , although in the case of the D520 its an old clunker from 1965 !
edit . I forgot about the Hasegawa ( or the Hobby 2000 rebox )which is likely to be easier to source and up there with the RS in terms of detail .

The HobbyBoss model is very nice, detailed, with recessed panel lines ( ignore the fact that it is a quick assembly model )

I think I’d want the RS Models one, though from what Dave said, maybe I’ll just go for the Hobby Boss kit instead :) The Tamiya one is tempting, except that I’d want it in 1:72 …

Hi all

So some arrivals over the past week or so....

Firstly some paints so I can crack on with my figures.....

Secondly a metal barrel for the128mm Flak 40 that is part of my 'Hunters and Hunted' collection. Ended up having to go to Poland to get it due to P&P charges doubling the price or more in most cases. Used a model website I've used a couple of times before that has sensible delivery charges, so cost just over £7 all told.

Just delivered by Yodel..................................
DSCF1768.JPG
6 sheets of 6mm moisture resistant MDF for seascape bases. Cut to my sizes, sharp, square edges..................
I used https://www.woodsheets.com/ - unlike other sites, it seems to cater for smaller orders, charging carriage by weight, rather than a flat rate ( cheaper if it's only a smaller order ). Service pretty quick, although if you're desperate you can pay a premium for next day delivery

Delivery van just dropped off a recent purchase from Resicast:

My next build is going to be a Sherman V with deep-wading gear, and Resicast is the only one I know who makes a set. It turned out they have a €40 minimum order, which that didn’t meet, so I decided to add the Churchill set as well because I also intend to make an AVRE equipped like that. Someday :) The set of four boxes is a nice surprise, thrown in for free.

All the way from China.................

Bit difficult to tell, but wooden decks for the Tamiya 1/700 HMS Nelson ( l ) & HMS King George V. I don't know how these will work out in such a small scale...................

I've got the George turning up anytime now, interested to know how you get on.

Hi Dave
I built the sister ship to HMS Nelson, HMS Rodney. I used a wooden deck and it was fine. I'll look forward to both your ship builds.

Looks like sheets of leaves for dioramas, going by what’s visible in the oval window (?) in the packaging.

For me, the DHL man dropped off a package containing the kit that I need the Sherman deep-wading gear for:

Also a set of tracks for it, plus the SKP A30 Challenger because I noticed this pretty rare kit was in stock at the shop where I ordered it, and a metal barrel for the Chi-Nu I bought recently, mostly because for €3.75, why not?
