Latest Acquisitions (2023)

Oh, Dude 2 is getting all artsy on us now!!!...Go, Van Gough, Go!!!.................

Postie came this morning and handed me a package. The kit was on my wish list and not available for quite a long while, at a reasonable price. Now, in my defense, I have 5 kits in evilbay that run out on Sunday. I realize the madness has to end sometime soon and, it's not a WnW kitset either, Neil...

The MIG cleaner is for my AB when I use their acrylics. Delivered, the two together, was under €111............It's Bread & water for Easter!!!

Wow!!! And I thought my recent run on Eduard kits was wallet denting but then I know these are excellent kits!

The kits are excellent Andrew, and they aren't cheap. Since I'm retired and single, I've realized I can finally afford to buy some of them to enjoy. If I should kick off before they get built, my kids can sell them and have some good cash in their pockets. So, in a way, they are an investment too...Hope this makes some sense...

One of my favourite brushes is a pro arte 202 that I got in a mixed pack somewhere. I've bought all sorts of new ones but tend to pick that up for most things!
Agree, Andy I used to use W&N no 7, expensive, esp when I'm hard on brushes, some German ones I can't remember the name off hand and Rosemary. Found these and stayed with them, just right for me, ok they don't maybe last as long as W&N but at the price they are they win hands down .

It's a kit and a good one! Who needs any other justification.....

Just be careful though, keep going at the rate you are and you might end up worth more to them dead than alive!! :smiling5:

This is another kit I have in stash too! You and me like the same subjects!!! Looking forward to your build of this gorgeous kit I know you’ll make a stunner from it. Steve (Stona), if memory serves, also built this kit and produced a beautiful looking final model. :thumb2:
Cheers, P

Usual great service and value from John. @Jakko you can probably claim commission on the AVRE. Been eying them up for a while but your build encouraged me to add to basket.99A34BD3-523B-4B1E-BA8F-074CF1DC8E8B.jpeg

Let me know what you think of the smart mud @Jack L .

I used it for the first time last night. Tricky to get started as it just wants to slide around, even on a rough surface, but once you get some down I found it great to work with.

Sorry, sorry, sorry!... If this seems familiar there is a reason!
Like an idiot I accidentally deleted my own post! No one need like/love comment on this as this has been posted once already but I thought it would make sense of previous replies!

I'm a proper klutz!

This fabulous kit arrived today and I'm really quite excited about it. I've been looking for a way of building one of these vehicles for ages and then suddenly Thunder announce they are were going to kit one.

The reason I'm so pleased they did is because these particular vehicles were used in an action involving my grandfather.
My grandad was a Sexton SPG driver with the 153rd Leicestershire Yeomanry Royal Artillery regiment, Guards Armoured Division during WWII. On 3rd August 1944 they were deployed at Maisoncelles Plateau and begun firing on enemy positions. However the deployment was very confused and was planned in complete ignorance of the whereabouts of the 9th SS 'Hohenstaufen' Division. My grandfather's unlucky regiment were about to find out exactly where they were! As I said previously, the batteries of Sexton self propelled artillery pieces (one of which my grandad drove) were shelling enemy positions when suddenly from the direction of a farm to the east came the Panthers and panzer grenadiers of the 9th SS Hohenstaufen division. These forces were too close to engage with the 25pdr guns (the Sextons were armed with) and so they were forced to use 'open sights' and engage the enemy as improvised anti tank guns! The only other heavy weaponry they had were in the form of 40mm self propelled, anti aircraft guns, as seen above. These proved invaluable in holding the German infantry back during a very hasty and chaotic fighting retreat. Achilles tank destroyers were later deployed to drive back the attack but it's thanks in part to these 40mm guns that my grandfather wasn't killed or captured. Weirdly, this would not be the last time that the 9th SS would meet the Guards armoured Division as the two would be trading rounds again a couple of months later in Holland during operation Market Garden.

Anyway, the kit contents look absolutely fabulous and I look forward to building this, together with a couple of Dragon Sextons, into a very personal diorama at sometime in the future.
Cheers, P

Just need something borrowed and something blue now!

Cool :) I really like those kits, even if they can be tricky to put together in places. It doesn’t include the fascine, but that should be easy enough to make yourself.

Also, that punch and die set is very good. Unfortunately RP Toolz doesn’t sell loose replacement punches anymore, otherwise I would recommend you order some rounded-headed ones from them, as they will fit the die fine and save you a lot of money buying a separate full set for them,

Shockingly I've never built a Tiger.....
There’s always a first time ;) but that is a surprise Andrew

I know Tigers are sometimes sniffed at for being the popular choice but I see them as no less interesting than a Stug or Pz IV. And I’ve built plenty,
including a 1/16 Tamiya RC Tiger (converted to a late steel wheeled version). That’s not to say that I haven’t built my fair share of Stug and Pz IVs too.

I don’t know yet what I will do with this Tiger. Generally I’m a late WWII modeller, so this may get converted to a steel wheel version or maybe a Mid version. I think possibly a late war Tiger in a diorama. I’ll give it some thought as I don’t want it to get too large, more of a 1/16 vignette with the emphasis on the vehicle and figures.

Cheers
Paul

Hi all

So some holiday period themed arrivals at home. This represents most of the families acquisitions, although Junior and Junioress have already demolished one each.... for some reason Junior felt the need to create the below tower!

The bottom pic is my personal haul. The largest one is a gift from work.....so they would have bought over 500 of them!!

ATB

Andrew

Now THAT'S why you couldn't get Cadburys mini-eggs in the shops - Andrews got them all!!!

She has put her foot down with a firm hand and told me to make the best of it as at my age this is as close a I am going to get to a real one. No sense of fun some people. There is nowhere I could put it to full use on the island anyway, so I guess this is better than nothing. I have built this before but that was in the original ProTar boxing. That puts it about 50 years ago. Where does time go?
John.
