Felt absolutely fine the week before last. Pottered about doing all my usual stuff and went to a pub quiz on Thursday. All day Friday I was fine and had an early night (about 0200 Sat am which is early for me).

Woke up in the wee small hours of Saturday with violent convulsions, sickness and diarrhoea. If it hadn't been for the last two, I'd have stayed warm and comfy in bed, but had to struggle down to the bathroom. I don't know how long the attack lasted, but at some stage I fell asleep on the bathroom floor curled around the lavatory.

Woke up again at around 1100 freezing cold and literally had to crawl upstairs to bed. Promptly fell asleep until 0200 Sunday morning. Got up for a couple of hours then went back to bed until about 4:00 pm. I went back to bed around 7:00 pm thinking it was 7:00 am Monday morning! I set the alarm for 11:00 'cos PJ was coming round at 12:00. Woke up when the alarm went off and it wasn't until I got downstairs that I noticed it was dark outside. :upside:

Anyway, I went back to bed around 4:00 am. I got up - again- at 11:00 but literally felt like death warmed up. I spent all day Monday at the hospital getting prodded (talk about half an armful!), poked, X-rayed and ECG'd ( Good news there as it turns out I have the normal sinus rhythm of a 40 year old!) and diagnosed with pneumonia.

Since then I've been back home on strong antibiotics. Got a blood test on Thursday and back to the hospital Friday morning. The good news is, the antibiotics are working and I'm on the mend. Bad news is because I used to be a smoker, it's likely to take a couple of months to get back to normal, and my recovery won't be straightforward. I'll have odd days when I get shortness of breath and general weakness.

Still. Can't complain as it's the big 70 next month and if that's the only problem I got, I can be happy with that. But I could've done without it!

Very sorry to hear that Dave. Hope the recovery is not as long as they say!

ATB.
Andrew

Hope you are back fighting fit as soon as possible.
Last time I woke up cuddling a toilet, I think I was about 16-17. lol

I did notice you werent around much lately dave , I was on the verge of sending you a PM to see if you were ok. Sorry to hear about your recent bout of illness but glad youre on the mend now . Take care of yourself now and hopefully the antibiotics will do the job quickly . tony

Ooh pneumonia is a rough thing to get :confounded:

Glad you are on the mend now Dave, time to be gentle with yourself and rest up when you can.

Get well soon.

Geoff.

Sorry to hear you've not been well Dave, great you're feeling a bit better now.

Bad news that you were ill, but good news that you are recovering. All the best.
John.

Glad you’re on the mend Dave. The pneumonia sounds horrific. Take it easy, rest up and remember your health comes first.
It’s great to hear from you though
All the best
Paul

Had the same almost to the day back in 2019, started with a horrible dose of flu, then hospital after finding it was pneumonia. It all lead to a final diagnosis of ME a yr later. Never worked properly after hospital, tired to return but sent home every time by my manager

You have my sympathy Dave, take it very easy

Wow Dave, I'm sorry to hear this and I hope you come around to your old self quickly. Nobody needs this kind of crap. Getting old does really suck too, especially health wise...Take care of youself...

Gute Besserung
Allen

Having been hospitalised with pneumonia myself a few years ago you have my sympathies Dave, it does take a bit to recover but it will, wishing you all the best.

Andy.

Look after yourself Dave. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I had Pneumonia a few years ago and it started similar. I was fine, went to a mates had a curry came hope and woke up around 3 in the morning with severe pain on my left side chest. Fever, got worse and ended up in hospital on antibiotics 9 days later I came home knackered and still on antibiotics. Never did recover fully.

You take it easy Dave, look after yourself mate.

My best wishes for a prompt and full recovery, Dave.
I had pneumonia some 10 years ago, but just with some mild fever :face-with-thermometer: and a stinging pain in my right chest at every breath deeper than that of a sleepy kitten. After a week on antibiotics I began to feel better but it took me another two weeks before feeling more steady than a dish of scrambled eggs. :dizzy:

Ouch, that sounds horrible. Get well soon Dave.
Pete
