Felt absolutely fine the week before last. Pottered about doing all my usual stuff and went to a pub quiz on Thursday. All day Friday I was fine and had an early night (about 0200 Sat am which is early for me).
Woke up in the wee small hours of Saturday with violent convulsions, sickness and diarrhoea. If it hadn't been for the last two, I'd have stayed warm and comfy in bed, but had to struggle down to the bathroom. I don't know how long the attack lasted, but at some stage I fell asleep on the bathroom floor curled around the lavatory.
Woke up again at around 1100 freezing cold and literally had to crawl upstairs to bed. Promptly fell asleep until 0200 Sunday morning. Got up for a couple of hours then went back to bed until about 4:00 pm. I went back to bed around 7:00 pm thinking it was 7:00 am Monday morning! I set the alarm for 11:00 'cos PJ was coming round at 12:00. Woke up when the alarm went off and it wasn't until I got downstairs that I noticed it was dark outside. :upside:
Anyway, I went back to bed around 4:00 am. I got up - again- at 11:00 but literally felt like death warmed up. I spent all day Monday at the hospital getting prodded (talk about half an armful!), poked, X-rayed and ECG'd ( Good news there as it turns out I have the normal sinus rhythm of a 40 year old!) and diagnosed with pneumonia.
Since then I've been back home on strong antibiotics. Got a blood test on Thursday and back to the hospital Friday morning. The good news is, the antibiotics are working and I'm on the mend. Bad news is because I used to be a smoker, it's likely to take a couple of months to get back to normal, and my recovery won't be straightforward. I'll have odd days when I get shortness of breath and general weakness.
Still. Can't complain as it's the big 70 next month and if that's the only problem I got, I can be happy with that. But I could've done without it!
