I never had this set, but have fond memories of building many of their contemporaries, like the Germans crowded on the back of a tank. It’ll be interesting to see what you’ll manage to make out of this set.

this is my intended victim but he will get a bit of a makeover
first task was to sharpen up the wishy washy creases
dig out the undercuts
and chop his head off
once all that was done the rebuild could commence
at least it would do normally but since I am not permitted to use anything in the build that did not come in the box I had to make myself some plastic card from a length of the sprue
the starting point
which, after a bit of work with knife and sanding stick, was turned into this thin sheet
first thing was to make a clip for the Y belt using the plastic sheet
next I turned to the bread bag - a bit weedy and the wrong shape. Couldn't do too much apart from correct the shape a bit and add some D rings from stretched sprue
bread bag in place with all the various straps and clips added from my sprue plastic card
neck hole opened out
made my own filler from more sprue dissolved in Humbrol poly
used the goop to build up his neck - once it sets it can be carved to shape
water bottle is too large but couldn't do much about that so decided to leave as is and just scrape in the cover flap and add the three buttons from stretched sprue
part two follows shortly..........

I cut away the moulded gas mask strap and scraped the various uniform details to sharpen things up as far as possible
added the gas mask case and water bottle then added the various straps and belt clips from more sprue card
added strap to side of gas mask case
added D rings to the Y straps from more sprue
sanded one of the kit ammo belts thinner then sawed between each round and draped it over his shoulder
carved out the inside of a helmet to thin down the rim
added rivets on the outside from sprue
the kit ammo boxes are both moulded open and lack detail
had to chop and sand
then start to rebuild
it will need handles and clasps from sprue but I ran out of time last night

This is really looking good Simon. Brings back memories as the first set of figures I put in a dio ambushing a load of US troops in an M21.

Was going to add the mess tin until I realised that it is about half the size it should be
Not done a great deal tonight
added his reworked noggin, added a chinstrap from more sprue-card and then the helmet on top
investigated the arm selection - not great
chose the nearest to the position I wanted and sliced it into three sections
since wire is off the menu I drilled and pinned it with stretched sprue instead
this is the arm after adjusting the pin length and gluing in place
the gaps have been filled with green goop - once set it can be carved as necessary

Great work. I’m waiting for the box itself to make an appearance....can’t be long now, you’ve used everything else
