Maybe try and model something totally different from your normal area of interest Papa John,Maybe a ship or an aircraft.
Stay calm,Stay cool,Stay loose.
Pip pip onk onk chap.
Richard.

hey John , it's not a crime if you leave it for a week or even a month!
just do something else and when the time is right you'll pick it up again.
I do find I try and drive myself sometimes as if it is work, and then I remember it's not.
As Peter says, it's a hobby. It's about fun and if it's not fun there's no need to do it.
But you know that.
looking forward to hearing about your alternative

It happens to everyone John, and the thing to do is not panic; the mojo will return - not that I take my own advice. I do sometimes find that if I force myself to pick up a brush when I really can't be bothered, it gets things flowing, but it can also lead to a ruined job as the attention wanders and boredom sets in. My own problem is perfectionism, a serious offshoot of anxiety and depression, and that tends to get into a cycle where I bin something, panic and rush to get onto the next one, ruin that, and go to the next one etc etc. I then usually remember the refrain from the Foo Fighters 'All My Life' - ''Gone, gone, onto the next one. Gone gone onto the next one...'' and that helps me calm down and reevaluate what I'm doing and realise I need to have a rest from it all - it's only a hobby right?
Think your right Peter, we all want what we do to be correct, I know if I try to paint it will go wrong, so just going to sit and watch everybody else. May be i'll be motivated.

John,
I'm not surprised you went from minus 20 in Russia to plus 25 you have had no chance to get used to the heat. It will pass mate and you will soon be modelling to your usual high standards.
Ha Paul, nice one, and thank you .

Neil think you hit it on the head, being retired it does seems like work when I go into the cave and set too.

Hi Richard, I've looked at planes, Russian of course, but to a none wingy they all look a bit similar and I've built 2 already. Ships aren't my thing, I leave that to Chris :smiling2:.
Thanks though for the suggestion.

I even had to post this in several posts, normally I would just add the next reply, but this time the computer say no.
Thanks for the support, not going to do anything else until I get those figures finished......................................... maybe tomorrow. maybe not :upside:

Im stuck in the same conundrum.Humid weather drains the old energy.I just paint my beach stones to pass the time.Havent built a kit in a few years,Maybe John can join me in building a kit jointly,I could maybe get a Russian tank to do,Maybe an old Tamiya T.34 for a nostalgia trip?.
Rich.

Totally agree Mate.If i cant meet standards i see from others i tend to give up.I dont force myself anymore or it ends up a chore and hate it.Find the stones help to settle the mind.
Rich.

I agree too, for me its like a test that I'm afraid to fail or have forgotten the steps to achieve what I did before.
The buildings that I have done for instants...they stop at being painted. And the ships which I've stopped for nearly a week and it happened when I was adding the bedrolls. The moment I started to re-do the ones I had just finished meant that I was getting into a rut or just not confident with the placements. So I stop and potter around the house and get back into it when I'm ready.

Cheers,
Richard

Snap out of it JR....Matron is on her way over to take your temp and boy is she pisssssssssed! Having to go out in this heat is driving her MAD. I suggest you get an attitude change quick, fast and in a hurry afore she gets there or it'll be Hell to pay..........I'm off to find a good hide till she's gone..........Later Mate. Rick H.

This must be serious if Matrons on her way in the heat to check on you John. And its a first to get a sad imoji from you...now snap out of it...do your build in your undies if the heat bothers you. I'm sure your man cave is safe and secluded.

See you at the bench, but first I'll hide next to Rick. :smiling2:
Richard.

Hi John

gently gently catchie Mojo!

My renewed motivation is due to a return to work, but from home, so I'm motivated to do something else whilst waiting for the work server to try and log me on!

As it has already been said, when you "Have" to do something else, your mind wanders back to modelling!

Get stuck into a none modeling job, and even if it doesn't spark the mojo, its something less to do when you get back to the bench

Enjoy the unseasonal summer too, it might not last for that long?

Regards

... I've come to a complete stop. Plenty of kits in the stash, too many in fact but little interest in building anything ...
John, just a short post to say that you are not alone with this 'phenomena'. Lately - whether it's isolation or not - I can spend all day working on a model (or two), thoroughly absorbed, then the next I don't want to go near the bench. And recently I've taken to starting a model with great enthusiasm which dissipates halfway through the build and I have to start on something else before returning to the former some days later. Usually I have some insight into my mood variations but lately that seems to have deserted me also. Isolation is doing some mental mischiefs methinks.

Long as the thermometer goes in the gob rather than the Aris!!!

Tim, must have fired me up because I've spent an hr looking at maps of the area, and just about to look at German armoured trains ! Pity there don't appear to be any photos of the actual attack. What a great story.
Just had a look at MiniArt wagons, would need 3 at £ 35 each plus the track. Pity as it would be a great diorama, something to think about.:smiling3:

Sounds a nice idea Rhichard.

OH God Rick, I better buck up before she arrives. The thought of seeing that bike coming up the road is enought.

The cave actually has two doors so a through breeze can be had. Today I finished a piece of jigsaw that was lost from a 1000 part one, cut it out to shape and thickened it up with card
painted in Vallejo and finished in satin varnish.

Hi Steve, iv'e been in the garden , but early as by 1100 was in direct sun, did a fair amount of trimming then back inside and finished that part above. Do think doing that part has made me want to do more painting.

Hi Murfie, strange times mate, makes you think it could be part of the problem. I ve never really had a major dip so this does seem strange.

:fearful::flushed::worried::sad:.

Well its a lot cooler here tonight, the forecast said 93 % of rain............................ yeah right, good job their not paid on results, as its still blue skies with a little cloud.
Night all .

Up to 18 months ago I was spending thousands on photographic equipment, I'd think nothing of spending £2k on a lens. Spending hours refining my fav which is macro photography, insects, abstract and flowers. Had some of them published as well. Then having gone the rounds, several times, in types and makes of cameras and lenses I woke up one morning and did nothing. Friends who had the same addiction have all gone through it. But now I take pictures for fun and its more relaxing. I get the odd twinge but nothing yet but one day the bug will bite. It's bloody expensive though. But then it was as much of a serious thing than a hobby. Perhaps too serious

However, modelling is different and the heat has stopped me in my tracks but I'm confident it will return. A Mosquito to build next. So relax and dont worry about it. It will return

Cheers Gary, funny enough I did the photo thing, Canon 5d, lenses, loved macro , landscapes which I loved. Then found taking photos of my models was easier with a phone !Now hardly use the camera .

It's true John it is. I was stunned to realise that many of the younger generation have never owned a camera. Times change. I do get frustrated a bit at the quality of my model shots as I dont have the lighting to do them justice. Ridiculous I know so now I take as good as I can and be done with it. I was just getting into full frame cameras and probably wise to stop. That IS expensive to keep up to date as a "hobby"
