Hi guys

the plonker in question is me.

yesterday, I discovered the hard way that the blade on by table saw is harder than my thumb. not sure what exactly happened but a moments lapse in concentration anm the saw was cutting into the end of my thumb. Rushed up to A&E then admission to the ward and 1 and a half hours in surgery!

looks positive so far but i am looking at my hand beib 6 weeks in plaster which is really puts paid to modelling for a while.

still, it could be worse - at least I have a whole thumb, albeir that the end bone is about 2mm narrower.

Hi Peter
As you say it could have been worse but pretty horrendous anyway. It only takes a small misjudgement for an accident to happen.
Jim

Sorry to hear that Peter, but it sounds like you’ll make a full recovery. Get well soon and hopefully back to modelling soon.

Seen that done, so you're not alone! Bet it throbbed a tad. Hope it fixes soon and they've given you some splendid painkillers.

Yeah could've been worse, could've been my thumb!!!
Glad it'll be OK though mate, speedy recovery.

Sorry to here about your mishap i know last year i fell(sober) and broke my wrist and elbow its amazing what you can’t do with one arm even reading was a chore
hope you get better soon with no lasting damage
simon

Bad news Peter...I do hope it heals properly and doesn't have any ill effects on your motor skills in the hand. Just take it easy..........

Sorry to read that Peter, had a slight misshape my self a few years ago like that with a bandsaw, so know how it feels. Does it keep going through your mind !
Luckily for me apart from a deep cut or the bandsaw we're injured, but it did pray on my mind for some time after.

Hi Peter,
Having suffered a thumb injury just recently I can sympathise with your plight.
But now comes an even greater problem - when on a visit to the small room, that is when you know who your friends are...
Hope you mend quickly,
Mike.

Peter,
strong hand, or weak hand? I get bouts of OA in my right hand occasionally, and I've learnt to do one or two things with my left hand - like airbrushing! Luckily writing with a pen is a thing of the past!, but it does highlight some of the finer motor skills you use, and lose! I find I have to allow much more time to do things single handed - and some things you shouldn't even attempt - like changing a duvet cover! :rolling:

Wow, hope that heals well Peter, it sounds very painful. I broke my arm a few years ago and know exactly what the guys are saying. There are some things that suddenly become very difficult to do one handed. I found investing in elasticated tracksuit bottoms made some of the more mundane, but necessary, tasks a bit easier.

SORRY to hear this Peter hope you on the mend soon garwd we are all in the wars it seems
chris

Suffered a few nasties at work over the years ,the favorite quote being lets have a look is it going home bad. I hope it all heals up OK with no loss of normal use. The couple of times I suffered hand damage I found the biggest thing taken for granted was bum wiping ,being right handed it dont come naturally with your left. All the best for a speedy recovery Dave

Ooh Peter...sounds nasty with bone and flesh sawn off. Hope it mends and works even if its the tip. Narrower means you'll be able to hold tiny pieces and put into place without the tweezer. Get well.

Cheers,
Richard

OUCH!
As the YouTube safety nannies would say "hope you had your safety glasses on"...
Hope it heals up well and every thing works afterwards!

A safety tip from me. When you drop an electric planer, just let it fall. DO NOT try to catch it! Ask me how I know this...

That works for a soldering iron as well Ian…..

Thank God you still have your thumb Peter.........I know from personal experience that after your thumb is healed that physical therapy will be a tremendous help in getting back flexibility and dexterity..........wishing you a speedy and successful recovery. Rick H.
