Recently I've been suffering with depression and anxiety. Had a few scary episodes too, with dark thoughts. Many years ago I used to keep tropical fish and I remember how relaxing it was watching them. So I've decided to take the past time up again. Things have certainly changed alot since I last kept fish. I found a fantastic aquatic shop. The guys running it were very informative and patient, listening to what I wanted then advising what I would need without being pushy. So an hour later and £210 lighter i was on my way home. This afternoon has been spent setting everything up. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to get my first fish to go in and start relaxing, watching them.

Sorry to hear that mate. Hope the new hobby is helpful.
Don't forget that there is always help out there, eg: samaritans, etc.....
Cheers
Thanks for that. Been in touch with various groups. All been helpful. Be good to have something new to focus on

Sorry to read your message. The fish will be great i am sure, I read that some air traffic control towers have tropical fish to help the stressed staff. Have fun setting the tank etc up and picking the fish!!

If you ever need a chat please feel free to PM me

Sorry to hear that Peej. Been there myself back in 2015. Talking definitely helps, as does getting out in the air. I took up birdwatching for a while and found that very relaxing. Hope it improves for you 👍

All the best to you . Hope the fish keeping helps. They are certainly wonderful to watch and can become quite addictive.

All being well the 1st of the fish will be in next weekend. Some zebra danios and maybe a couple of catfish. A couple of hardy species to help the water stabilise.

Freshwater tropicals? A friend of mine had saltwater, but they seemed to need too much attention for me. I had two 4 foot tanks in the living room of my first house. My dad had fish in the early 1950s, when a single neon tetra could cost a week's wages!
They are very relaxing to watch aren't they.

I used to keep fish when I still lived in England. It was a very relaxing hobby. I even joined a club and took part in aquarium shows.

Freshwater for me. Marine tanks are nice with some beautiful coloured fish, but as you said i think they do need a little more attention. My tank is in my bedroom so it'll be nice just to chill out at night watching them

I had freshwater fish too for years (Amazon-river theme, long time ago) it's a great and calm hobby indeed, wish you the best Peej, cheers

Looking good, that dark background and bottom will help the fish to relax and make their colours pop. Is there a filter or heating in the tank?

The tank is a fluval flex. The heater, filters and pump are all behind the black plastic backing. There is also a spray bar fitted to keep the water moving.

I had an aquarium when my daughter was young, that was also a Fluval
Still in the shed somewhere with the filtration unit and loads of other bits.
(Free for anyone wanting to collect near Cambridge)
We seemed to get an endless supply of Guppies, always had a full nursery net/pen full.

Not really my thing, but our kid liked it and the moggy enjoyed sleeping on the warm lid

I have an electric fire in my sitting room that has a built in video screen. As well as videos of log and coal fires, gas flames, a lava lamp and country sceen, there is a fish tank. If you close your eyes you can smell the various fires, but the fish tank is the most soothing. Look after yourself pal.

The 1st guests arrived at the weekend. Water wasn't quite right for fish but I've got 6 amano shrimps and a yellow rabbit snail so far. Water should be spot on in another day or two so should have some fish to go in with what I have so far.

Sorry to read of your troubles, but the chaps above have offered good advice there.
Tropical fish, I've been keeping them for the last 12 years. Fluval is about as well known as the BBC in aquraium world, so all should be good there.
I know you're really keen to get the animals in there, but please do hold off until you are sure the water is ready for them.
I was wondering about your plants, was any advice offered about feeding them ? Also, I noticed they are still in their pots, were you not advised to remove the plants from the 'rockwool' ?
That said, the aquascape you've created looks really good.
