Yep just like that. I was sitting here reading the forum, and it just hit me: why do I keep doing this?
So I did it I just quit. That was last Wednesday so I can. Hand on heart say I have not had a cigarette for one full week

Hi Ian
Well done. I have been there many years ago. It's bloody hard but as time passes it gets easier. You'll be richer and healthier.
Keep at it
Jim

Well done but watch out all that money saved you can buy more kits.
As I have because I gave up 23 years ago and still haven't saved any money.

Well done Ian. I struggled for 10 years to quit, and have now gone 8 years without a fag. Best thing I ever did.

Good for you Ian, I gave up the very moment my Dad let me try a puff from his cigarette thinking what the !@#$%@! and remembering how awful it tasted. I do occasionally do a puff if friends want to pass a cigar or cigarette around but never had the habit. But being able to say no to an offer for a ciggy gets more respect.

Cheers,
Richard

Congrats mate, I am on roll ups, as I cannot do them properly my wife does them so I am down to a few. I occasionally have a 'proper packet' but it is just so expensive. I will stop, have to.

Good work. I smoked 20+ Marlboros for over 30 years and packed up 10 years ago. I've never looked back. As Peter said, I haven't seen a penny of it either......

Well done!

many years ago my brother-in-law did the same, just stopped. For him the key was not telling anybody so people didn't keep asking him how he was getting on. When my dad gave up he developed a habit for extra strong mints - chain-eating them by yhe box load.

Peter

Well done Ian!
I started aged 11, and 'gave up' three times, but this time's permanent - haven't had one since 2005. Saved a fortune.
Pete

Good man yerself Ian.

Apart from perhaps a curious puff behind the bike sheds at school, ( mods please rephrase that if thought necessary) I've never smoked, so the money I have saved should have made me a millionaire by now....Guess what?!

I gave up - cold turkey - 20 years ago! Not easy - especially when you could still smoke in pubs! I still reckon I have an addiction, though - occasionally I really feel I could have a ciggy, but it goes away after a minute or two.
The reason I stopped was: I had been rushed into hospital with blood poisoning & while I was there, I was diagnosed with diabetes. Ten days later, the day before I was discharged, the consultant came to me & asked me if I smoked - I said yes. He said " Now - you don't! - If you do - you'll be back here in a few years, and I'll be cutting one of your legs off!! " That somehow got through to me way more than heart/lung problems!

Good for you. Well done. I've never smoker myself but I've got plenty of friends who do and some who've given up. Stick with it. It'll be worth it.

I gave up over 15 years ago and it is the best thing I ever did. with the money I saved every month I bought a car.

Congratulations Ian, now just think of all the models you can buy with the money you save.

In the 80's I lived in Paris where the breakfast of champions was a pack of Gaulois and a glass of red wine. I gave up finally in 1986 and have never looked back. Bravo to you Ian. You'll not regret it.

Blimey, that’s tough love….a clip around the ear would probably work, not cutting off a whole leg ;)
