To answer Richard and Jon. I'm not aware of consciously changing my approach, though I have been slightly bolder lately with highlighting and blending it down into the mid-tones. I find that brighter colours also look softer, especially after endless amounts of field grey and khaki. I would also suggest that the sculpt lends itself to a softer approach - there a fluidity to Young B Song's work, with the folds flowing across the figure - everything is moving around the figure in the direction he's looking so that even the details of the face are slightly slanted that way.
Another thing is that I think I've learned my lesson and opt for better busts in future - a more realistic sculpt will give a more realistic finish.

The helmet is probably meant to be "Cuir Bouilli" or "boiled leather" with metal reinforcement - this was used extensively in the pre-medieval period as it was easier to shape than metal and was remarkably tough- see the following link for an example.
