At what point is your "stash" getting out of hand?

I have always had lots of hobbies and have always collected and acquired "stuff" to go with said hobbies, eg: sport, (footie, squash, golf, etc) then motorbikes, fishing, gaming consoles, vintage comics, airguns, plus few others, and now scale modelling! Plus, as an ex tradesman (plumber) and surveyor I have "collected" tools my whole working life.
For me with games console, I started with a few then went on to collect pretty much every game console ever available in the UK, and a few that were not... and it was deffo the hunting them down bit that I liked most. Once I had bought them, always mint examples, fully working, with all accessories and in originla boxes, etc, they would be stored away, rarely if ever actually used! And once I had pretty much every console (achieved few years back), I then started selling them off, gave a few away, etc and now my whole collection has gone.
With scale models, I do have a healthy turnaround, and build quite a few, on a regular basis, and I like to have tools/accessories for that particular hobby....
So I can (sort of) justify having a large(ish) stash to myself, even if no-one else is buying it, Lol!

Perhaps the hunting and gathering is scratching a primordial itch
I don’t have a large stash as I find it drags my mojo down (I know I’m odd
). However the stash I do have is in constant churn.I tend to sell kits off after having them for a while which gives me more pennies to start buying again.
I don’t think it’s a problem though if anyone has a large stash. If it’s bringing you pleasure then great

Like most hobbies , it doesn't matter if the money you spend doesn't have an adverse effect on anything or anyone else.
I know of people who have spent way beyond their means on photography equipment.
Constantly buying and then selling to pay off some of the credit card debt they have accrued.
My stash is limited to six with a one in and one out rule although this is very occasionally relaxed to seven.
Not a cash thing for me, but I don't like clutter and our little Victorian cottage is already full to bursting.
One kit takes me ages to complete, just do a bit when I fancy it so six is plenty to keep in waiting.
I have a spare slot after completing my little Mazda and the new release Italeri 1/9 Vespa scooter is calling to me
My Achilles heel is airbrushes, got nearly as many as I have kits, they do get used though for different mediums.

How it all started...
In the old days it wasn't easy to acquire models at first they were hardly distributed well and secondly my little legs couldn't peddle my little bicycle very far from home to any stationery shops that did have them. In family excursions to the towns Cold Storage, NAAFI or Supermarkets were the only time I could get excess to model kits. Christmas was the only time I had quite a substantial stash of perhaps five kits that usually lasted a week of building...the sailing ship The Prince took two days. The only proper model shops were in Singapore and on a business trip I gave my Dad Italeri's catalogue and ticked off kits that if he comes across to get it for me. I didn't know he would buy all of it. Since then the stash has grown usually bought in case it would not show up again on the shelves. A warehouse was off loading Airfix kits at a bargain when Airfix went bust...I purchased one of each in their series. Now they're back. Gift certificates from Tamiya competitions grew the stash even bigger...acquiring almost the whole catalogue. By this time my building was slower and I still have a few of the old Italeri kits my Dad had initially bought decades earlier. I opened a new can of worms by starting 1/700 ships. My sister working in Hong Kong asked her Art Director whose a keen modeler to purchase a list I had drawn up on PE for the ships and sent it to me as a gift...I still have them. The only thing I keep buying are 1/35 figures sets whenever I needed them for a diorama and as usual you end up with surplus so the stash collects by itself. When will it end...dunno?

Now there's a word from my past. As an ex BRAT the NAAFI was a place I regularly visited. Happy days.
Me too! Though I was younger and more interested in a quarter of black jacks and fruit salads than model kits, by the time I started modelling, we were living off bases, so just Woolies and WH Smith by then.
We lived in Singapore too, but I was only 3-5 - I suspect Lego featured more.
