Steven’s 1/48 Spitfire Mk.IIa

Thanks guys! 🙏

In my enthusiasm gluing things together I completely forgot to add a solid block into the fuselage so I could easily drill a hole for the rod...
So things got a bit more tricky, I ended up drilling a larger hole (3mm ~ 0,118") with a slight bank to the right.

Next I glued a piece of sprue into a 3mm orange plastic tube (closes the end off and glue-able with the fuselage).
The orange tube later fits a 2mm steel rod

The orange tube was then glued into the hole with superglue at the bottom and Tamiya at the top...

The orange tube was cut flush with the model, the 2mm steel rods fits into the tube,

Testflight - I gave the plane a slight bank to the right,

The canopy parts were glued in place with Micro Kristal Klear.

Today I masked the canopy with Tamiya tape, I did this after waking up from the night-shift, so turned out a bit sloppy.

That's all, thanks for watching - Cheers

Nice work Steven. The stand is going to look great, love the angle of bank you have set for the Spitfire. It will really help to show off that beautiful elliptical wing. Re the masking, I also tend to do canopy masks after working weird shifts, and like you they never turn out as you expect. Looks good in the photos though mate.

Thanks Joe 🙏

Finally could do some paintwork today.
First a light-green on top of the canopy for the inside color, then sprayed the plane with white primer (vallejo) and added some panel-line shading with black.

For the bottom I mixed a dark green for the panel-lines (black + olive drab primer),

For the bottom color of this Mk.IIa I sprayed 'duck egg green' (vallejo) which I believe is the same color described as 'sky'...

That's all so far, looking forward to the camo...
Thanks for reading, cheers

well I’m off this week and one day will definitely be back to modelling and I am now sold on the in-flight version.
